AN has learned of a fire Guangzhou Opera House. The project, designed by Zaha Hadid with a web-like exoskelton, includes an 1800 seat theater as well as a multipurpose hall and support facilities. The building was set to open this fall.

A Chinese media outlet reports that blaze has been extinguished but that the extent of the damage has not been determined. A project architect is currently on site and a statement from Hadid’s office is expected shortly.

Following the recent fire of the OMA-designed TVCC tower, the event represents the second construction blaze at a building site in China by an internationally known architect.

God hates bad architecture!

Zaha Hadid is one of my favorite architects.

I know there aren't many fans of modern architecture on this forum for whatever reason, but I think her stuff is amazing.

Hm, the building looks kind of ugly, but I have to wonder if China is slacking on some safety regulations which is leading to some of these mega fires? It would certainly be shocking to see China cutting corners when it comes to safety!

Also, it says this was in Guangzhou, not Beijing.

She did the Contemporary Art Center in DT Cincy ...

I know! Which is completely stunning!

I like a lot of her work too, but it's an engineer's nightmare.  Look at all that reinforced concrete supported by think columns.

New photographs and a movie reveal Zaha Hadid's only completed private residence – a house in the Barvikha Forest near Moscow, for a man she called the "Russian James Bond".

The late Iraqi-British architect designed Capital Hill Residence for businessman and philanthropist Vladislav Doronin, who runs property companies Capital Group and OKO Group, and is also the owner of luxury hotel and resort brand Aman.
