Posted May 12, 200916 yr Hey everyone, I thought I'd pose this question. I have some guitar gear I'd like to sell because I don't have the time to play like I used to, have more stuff than I need, can use the space in my basement, and would like to invest that money into my house. I'd like to primarily trade in a 60-watt Crate acoustic guitar amp, possibly an Ovation shallow-bowl acoustic/electric. I'm not inclined to sell online (i.e. eBay) because of the hassles or shipping them. I'd prefer taking them into a music store and seeing what kind of offer I could get before posting on Craigslist. Anyone know of any good music stores in Cleveland that pay reasonable money for gear? Thanks!
May 12, 200916 yr I don't know anything in the city. Try Cleveland Guitar on Lee Road (near Cedar) in Cleveland Hts.
May 24, 200916 yr Try Guitar Center in North Olmstead at Great Northern or Cleveland Music in Parma at Pearl & Ridge.
August 6, 201014 yr Honestly, you may be better off with Craigslist. I used to work in a music store (in St. Louis), and the offers on trade-ins weren't great.
August 6, 201014 yr There's a place on Mayfield Road, I believe it is called "Motter's Music", which may do trades and/or buy equipment. I believe it is in Lyndhurst.... maybe Mayfield Heights.
August 6, 201014 yr That's what the first post indicates. That doesn't mean it can't still be useful for members and guests. A lot of people have unused instruments laying around.
August 6, 201014 yr As an update on this, I took the acoustic amp to a few music stores (chain and local) and the trade-in offers were pretty ridiculously low. I ended up sticking it on Craigslist and having a college-aged guy wanting to meet me at Guitar Center to test it out. I found out that GC lets you bring your gear in to test with theirs. I did the same with a loop pedal. I stuck it on Craigslist for a fair price and eventually met a guy at Guitar Center. The music stores told me that they base their trade offers on what the market is on eBay, then go a little beneath that.

So my assessment of what you would have to do to get the most $$ was correct, lol.
