  • Just spoke to someone from CRM, and they are opening a pop up bar in the Schofield called Lake Effect at the corner of East 9th and Euclid.

  • I spoke to the bartender last night. He said that Lake Effeft as an xmas themed bar will remain open until January 15th. Then it will probably remain open as another bar afterward. If this is this is

I disagree.  It would look worse without the scaffolding.  Regardless if work is actually ongoing, the scaffolding at least gives that appearance.  Otherwise, we would just have a giant, unexpalined eyesore on perhaps our most prominent intersection.

Thats what I always say. Atleast to an outsider it looks like stuff is happening.

But as of late... what is happening? It looks deserted 24/7.

^ Actually, people were out painting the wood that covers the scaffolding this morning. Couldn't tell if any soft of work was actually going on inside the building

Are they still awaiting funding? For some reason I thought this project was funded.

Well, it would be good to detect a pulse again with this one...  This is such a fantastic building. Also, does anyone know if the adjacent/connected building (City Club?)will be a part of the renovation or at least get an exterior cleaning?

I don't think so.  City Club is quite nice inside.  Agree that the outside looks like it could use some TLC, what with the brick bandaids and all.

As an aside, the Truman building, which is part of the Schofield project, seems to have all of one person cleaning out debris and putting it in a dumpster every day.  And it seems like the interior of the building is being used by friends of the developer for downtown parking.  There are always a couple nice cars visible inside.

I believe the building was awarded tax credits, but there's a lot that goes on between getting the award and seeing construction.  Tax credits don't guarantee that the developer will be able to close on the rest of its financing.

Here we are with the filming of "The Avengers" right by the Schofield Building....  Imagine if the hotel were completed and open :-(, as it surely was supposed to be by now; what a vew of the filming the guests would have access to!  Of course, this is assuming the film people would still have selected that part of E. 9th.

^ I think one of the reasons they're allowed to film there is because that block is vacant. How could they possibly shoot a movie with random people walking into and out of their hotel???

I think they'd allow people to come in the main entrance, very close to Euclid. The main entrance of the Rose Building, too, is at the corner of E. 9th and Prospect.  Other buildings along E. 9th Street and Euclid, where the filming is taking place, have large numbers of workers but there are ways people can enter from obscure entrances.

If ifs and buts were candies and nuts we'd all have a bowl full of granola.  :-)  (That's from strangers with Candy, FYI)

Not to get everyone's hopes up (again) for a full blown resumption of construction, but demo work started again today (workers, front-end loader, dumpster, etc).

I don't know, I am a little excited by that.  Wish we knew more.

I dont know how things work, but did the owners of the building receive money for letting their building be used for the filming of the adventures. That money could have helped their financing slightly.

From filling in Euclid thread:

I talked to Joe Marrinuchi today, he said CRM will recommence work on the Schofield Building as soon as the Calfee Building is complete, and that due to the economy they had to finish one before they could tackle the other.

PLEASE let this continue!!!

Thanks mrclifton, I blanked on this thread.

Just walked by and saw the wood behind the scaffolding opened up and hard-hats walking in and out of the first floor

Nice hopefully work begins soon!

It was said before they were just waiting to complete the Calfee Building and then work would start. Calfee is just about done isn't it?

What about the parking garage for the Calfee? That hasn't even started correct? Will that delay the Schofield Building?

"Calfee is just about done isn't it?"

the parking garage is underway. I could say 'well underway'

this link shows the original detailing of The Schofield Building along with how it was originally intended to touch The Cleveland City Club building before its added deco base.  I sure wish both of these buildings could be returned to their original glory.

So in 1905, two floors below my office was a tailor? Interesting. Love the two horseless carriages and the one-horse carriage parked curbside.

Kimpton Plans to Rock Cleveland

CLEVELAND

http://www.meetingsfocus.com/Magazines/ArticleDetails/tabid/136/RegionID/238/ArticleID/17516/Default.aspx#top

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has announced its plans to enter the Cleveland, Ohio market with the management of a 161-room hotel. Housed in an historic, adaptive reuse downtown building, the hotel is slated to open in early 2013.

The boutique-style hotel will sit in the city’s landmark Schofield Building, which was built in 1902 and served as a prominent office building for more than 100 years. The new Kimpton will feature more than 7,400 square feet of meeting and event space, including a ballroom and outdoor roof terrace. It also will offer a chef-driven destination restaurant and--as part of a mixed-use development--there will be retail offerings on the building’s ground floor.

“For us, it’s especially exciting to see the demand for the boutique concept in general spreading to more mainstream cities in the Midwest and other areas of the country outside the urban centers of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco,” said Kimpton CEO Michael Depatie.

le' sigh (today)

That's the first peep out of Kimpton since June 2010 that they're moving in. So does their release of this PR now mean that the workers from the Calfee building are going to be shifting over to the Schofield soon? We've had three pages of "are we there yet?" chit-chat.

I'm very curious about this project since my office is right next door!

Is there any actual work being done on the building  right now?  With a suggested early 2013 opening that seems like a really short period of time to do so much work.

I believe there have been some tax credit issues, but it should be moving forward in March.

Heck yeah! Now lets get some blue insulation on that puppy asap.

I didn't read anything in there about the apartments on top.  I wonder if they axed them thinking there is going to be more demand for hotels?

Or no demand for condos (or, probably better put, no financing)..... I don't think 'apartments' were ever part of the plan.

A rooftop patio?! Yes!!! So excited for this. First step in bringing back E. 9th and Euclid

Good to see our familiar Scaffold Building will be immortalized in the upcoming Avengers film

^wow, the majic of Hollywood...instant new buildings.

Thank you!! I knew I wasn't crazy.

awesome!!  I can't wait. Does anyone know when they'll be starting development?

Since the "filling in Euclid Ave." thread is locked I am posting here.  Can anyone comment on the work being done in one of the buildings on the south side of Euclid Ave. between East 9th and East 12th?

Some of those buildings look like they were "sampled" from elsewhere downtown. I see the Eaton Center, the 1950s East Ohio Gas building, and perhaps the Huntington Building or the City Club Building.

Which ones specifically? I ask because we may have a thread for that.

I think he's asking about the Truman Building, which is being renovated in connection with the Schofield Building project.  I think we have a separate thread for Truman.

Don't think Truman is being redone with Schofield, they are a half a block apart and on other sides of East 9th.

I heard from a reliable source that Schofield will be starting up VERY soon.  Within weeks perhaps.

Same developer for schofield, truman, and security exchange buildings. they are being redeveloped together. the parking structure for the kimpton will actually be in the rear portion of the lower floors of the truman building.

I stand corrected.  Nice.
