February 11, 201213 yr Looking those plans from 09, I can't believe all the detail in the facade. This is going to take an incredible amount of work to bring back to what it looked like, even without the cornice. So much has been lost, its amazing they can even do it! Going to be spectacular when its all done, and relatively quickly it seems. By this time next year it could be nearing completion! Also, the crown hasn't been exposed yet. Judging by the drawings, again, there is a ton of detailed work up there. I wonder what kind of shape its going to be in when they remove the covering...

February 12, 201213 yr I think Security Federal was already rehabbed a while back. As I recall, it's the two story building next door to the Truman Bldg. The dentist that used to be in the Schofield building moved into the second floor a while back. There used to be a First Merit on the first floor. Not sure what's happening with that space.
February 13, 201213 yr The Truman has had some minor activity for the past couple of months. There is always a dumpster out in front of the building and it gets filled and hauled away, and replaced, etc. Lights are on in the building. It has the feel as if there are 3 guys working there. Not much activity, but it is activity.

The upper floors of security were rehabbed as office space and are now functioning. They will rebuild the storefronts to their original state as part of this project. Truman was scheduled to be converted into apartments, at least last i heard.

Yeah, downtown Chicago and surrounding neighborhoods have a ton going on....but I'm thinking more about the variety of projects...casino, MOCA, convention center, aquarium, hotels...I doubt any other city in the USA has ALL of this going on at once!!

February 19, 201213 yr This is what the backside of the Schofield Building looks like as seen from the 10th-floor elevator lobby of my office's building..... You can see a little bit into the Schofield's offices in this view looking down. Most appear to be stripped of any decor and some rooms are packed with what appears to be construction materials/supplies..... Although they were pretty far along. Not sure how tall it is supposed o be, but a week or so ago it was 3ish floors. Really can't wait for this one to start. Like mentioned above this is a major, major intersection. Plus I just think it will look d@mn awesome when done.

The articles I read said they were planning to open in 2013 not January of 2013 so they could finish up at the end of next year as long as it's 2013.

April 30, 201213 yr ^Who knows...the article is dated March 9, 2012. Who knows when the interview was conducted and whether he mis spoke or was just quoted wrong. Bottom line is that it is clearly not going to be opened this year. Hope it is done by next year.

I'm not worried, but I'll feel a bit better when I see the official news that this project has secured financing and is a definite go.

May 11, 201213 yr Has anyone been by the Schofield Building during the day and noticed any further activity ?? I've passed the building a couple of times in the evenings on my way home from work, and it doesnt look like much is going on.
