Posted October 23, 200519 yr From the 10/20/05 Sun Star: Developer picked for mixed-use project Thursday, October 20, 2005 By JOANNE BERGER The Sun Star NORTH ROYALTON - The city has made a commitment with The Coral Company to reshape the downtown into a mixed-use development. Mayor Cathy J. Luks said she is entering into a preliminary agreement with the Beachwood firm until the two parties can complete a final, detailed agreement. The Coral Company has created such mixed-use developments as the Cedar Center Plaza, a 20-acre retail area in University Heights and South Euclid and in Cincinnati, where it is planning a retail and residential development. Others include Shaker Square, the Domain on Lee and Streetsboro Market Square Office Park. http://www.cleveland.com/sun/sunstar/index.ssf?/base/news-0/1129826456102240.xml&coll=3
October 23, 200519 yr Before this even goes one step further, NR has a huge problem on their hands. And it's their fault the problem is still there. Every road, and I mean EVERY ROAD in the city is 1 lane in each direction. They recently widened the intersection at State and Royalton (82) but that is it, and honestly, it won't do any good if this project goes through. I hate driving thru the city. It is so populated and right next to Parma which is also highly populated, and so you have all these people clogging 1 lane in each direction. When you have a road with bumper to bumper of cars and one old person is going slow or someone wants to turn, you wait, wait, and wait. And by adding more retail and other things, you will just add more congestion. This is not a car nor pedestrian friendly city. No sidewalks, and the roads are not built for high volume. The city needs to observe what Beachwood, Lyndhurst, and Westlake have done - and that is create 5-7 lane roadways, local access alternatives. Right now, most people can't handle the congestion at State and 82 so they cut through the parking lot of Giant Eagle. And the radio towers.. there are 6 of them in a huge field between Ridge and State. They are situated just north of 82 behind a cemetery. If this land was converted into a retail zone, we're talking about a huge parcel of land. However, until then, I'm not really even looking forward to this. With neighboring Broadview Hts. developing their own downtown and with Strongsville nearby, what is the point of another huge retail venture...
October 23, 200519 yr i live in NR, awful place for cars and pedestrians indeed. Right now, most people can't handle the congestion at State and 82 so they cut through the parking lot of Giant Eagle. YES. and ya know, all this on top of the flooding the other summer.

Peter L. Rubin, president and CEO of The Coral Company, the firm city leaders chose to develop the mixed-use downtown project, said the project will be self-sustaining, meaning the city won't put money into it. July 3, 200816 yr From what I have heard most of the town center business plan was fabricated by the previous Mayor Luks...When the new mayor had taken office they found there was no businesses that committed or even showed interest in the project...Hence why this project is dead...For the record I am glad it is...Even though NR needs to rethink their downtown, there is to much retail around the city as is now (Strongsville, Parma, BRUNSWICK)... North Royalton rethinking downtown plan Posted by Shaheen Samavati July 03, 2008 10:43AM Categories: Breaking News, Economic development, Real Estate News Impact, Real estate North Royalton said today that, in response to economic conditions, it is rethinking a plan to develop a new downtown. http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2008/07/north_royalton_rethinking_down.html EDITED DUE TO COPYRIGHT POLICIES
July 7, 200816 yr I lived in that place *shudders* for eleven years.... many of the people there couldn't spell Downtown Cleveland if you gave them all the letters - they are blind to everything that's not on the southside. I'm so glad that now that I've lived twelve years in Cleveland I can officially say I'm from here and not there...
July 8, 200816 yr I work for NRHS...This project was supposed to help the schools out tremendously and save the district from putting the current levy up (hence the sale of the Abby road property to make way for this)...Ah well... I don't think you can do much with downtown NR...It is just a mess of buildings (with crazy setbacks and such) no real plan to any of it...The only good thing they have done was demo that old century 21 building on the corner of 82 and ridge...
