Posted May 27, 200916 yr These photos are from last week, enjoy. 1. Used to be one of the worst parts of Over-the-Rhine, now one of the best. 2. A wider view to appreciate the backdrop... 3. Get in while you still can, only a few spaces left (24 new businesses in two years) 4. City Roots (urban gardening store) located at 12th & Vine. 5. Art Academy of Cincinnati in the background, apartment building in the foreground. 6. Welcome to Findlay Market (Ohio's oldest farmers market). 7. Old time charm, new time style (Findlay Market runs on solar power now). 8. Inside the market house... 9. Outside now to sit down and enjoy some food for lunch and some beer at the seasonal Bier Garten. 10. 11. Now that's a view... 12. Uptown now...across the street from the University of Cincinnati. 13. Excellent photos nevertheless; attractive stuff indeed. Oh geez. Who cares. At OSU, there is 'Tho Oval.' There are other ovals of green space on campus, but The Oval is The Oval just like UC's quad is The Quad. Great set of photos btw. I especially love the first two.

Excellent photos nevertheless; attractive stuff indeed. I think it's technically called "Baldwin Quad" on the master plan, but I could be wrong. Either way, it's always called "The Quad" because it's the only one on UC's campus, while most colleges have quite a few. Nice shots, by the way!

May 27, 200916 yr It's the Herman Schnieder memorial quadrangle. Hermain Schnieder started the first co-op program in the United States at U.C. in 1909, if I remember correctly. There used to be a monment including a stone park bench overlooking the quad and a solar clock. I haven't been there recently, but I think the monument and bench has been removed. The solar clock was moved to another location near Baldwin Hall; not only did they put it in the shade so it can't be used in the morning hours, but they also failed to orient it in the correct direction so now it doesn't give the correct time. I don't know if it's still there or not. I got a call from a student who was hired to solicit donations. She asked, "Have you seen all the new work at the U.C. Campus that was completed in the last few years?" I said, "Yes, and I liked it better the way it was before."

May 27, 200916 yr Nippert Stadium > all other D1 football stadiums in Ohio (except maybe the new one in Akron). Nippert is the most functionally urban football stadium in the state, maybe the whole country. I would hope you're excluding Ohio Stadium, arguably the best college football stadium in the country. May 27, 200916 yr The best thing about Nippert is the way it's set within a natural amphitheater, with the top of the seating (except for the stands on the east side) roughly level with the campus around it. As such, you don't end up with a huge football stadium looming above its surroundings and visually dominating everything around it, along with the the dark no-mans-land under the bleachers. Even the raised stands on the east side are elevated so that they don't block the view toward the west side of campus if you're standing or walking under them. And of course, having the swoopy new buildings by Morphosis and Tschumi as a visual backdrop certainly doesn't suck, either.

May 28, 200916 yr Nippert isn't surrounded by a sea of parking lots. Since when do parking lots come into a discussion about stadiums? Elitch Gardens is America's most "urban" amusement park but it certainly isn't the best park out there, even when there are parks totally surrounded by parking lots. While I agree that Nippert is (by far) Ohio's most urban stadium, that doesn't make it the best stadium. May 28, 200916 yr We are all pulling out the Bill Clinton for this one :) That said, I'm pleased with UofM's stadium. But for Ohio, I'd go with either Nippert or the Tank Memorial Stadium (Ironton, Ohio, for historical reasons). I probably would also with the Portsmouth Spartan's stadium -- that later became the Detroit Lions.

May 28, 200916 yr Who on here has been to an OSU game and separately, a UC game? I am sure there are a few of us on here and thus, I am sure we can all agree that watching a game at Ohio Stadium and watching a game at Nippert Stadium is something you don't compare. The atmosphere and experience at Ohio Stadium is by far and away bigger and better than anything you could experience at Nippert. I went to OSU for undergrad and became accustomed to the Ohio Stadium experience. I now go to UC for grad. school and every time I went to a game at Nippert, in all honesty, I felt like I was watching a game in a league below that of OSU. Yes, Nippert is WONDERFUL and is beautifully set, but if we are talking about stadiums here, and what stadiums are used for (watching games mostly and experiences associated with that) then I agree with Colday, there is no comparison. Ohio Stadium > Nippert...duh!

May 28, 200916 yr Let's not turn this thread into an OSU vs. UC pissing match. Lets get back on track.... Those are some sweet pictures of OTR. I love how colorful it is. It's amazing what some paint can do to an area. And with UC, those pics were taken on a perfect day. Great set!
