May 28, 200916 yr Yes!!! I didn't realize you were snapping photos while I was driving over the Kennedy Bridge... the only way to get those first few :) YES! Build it! Build it! -- A bit of history behind that. The S&SC Club was formerly Lucky Strike Lanes that Cordish (the developers of 4th Street Live!) abruptly closed. The S&SC utilizes pretty much the same decor, and kept the bowling lanes, but it has a different "atmosphere." Kind of sh!tty, but Cordish controls that block. The venues remain well used and is Cordish's biggest success so far, to the point that they are duplicating and expanding the concept with the City Center project only one block away. Beats the failed and awful indoor mall they had there only a few years ago. This was once enclosed. -- [removed]
May 28, 200916 yr Some of those neighborhoods look incredible...and for Louisville's sake, please don't build Museum Plaza.
May 28, 200916 yr Wow, I am impressed. I see a lot of Cincy in some of these shots. The only times I've been to Louisville was for basketball games at Freedom Hall, or Six Flags, but these neighborhood shots look great. As always, great job, I really love your photo threads.
May 28, 200916 yr I heart Louisville. Just remember to say it properly. Loovl lul luu luu luu lou vul lou ie vil lui vil. oh Hell Louis-ville!
May 28, 200916 yr I see a lot of Mt. Auburn in these. I say, Lu-ie-ville. ¡4th St. Live!=Chain-bar-heaven
May 28, 200916 yr Great pics... My great-grandfather co-founded the Hillerich & Bradsby Baseball Bat Company (the family fortune apparently went down a different branch of the tree, though), so I've always felt some connection to the city, despite having only visited a couple times as a child for family gatherings.
May 30, 200916 yr I think they were in bad shape, and the back were demolished. Actually, many of the storefronts in that entire historic strip of main were empty. It reminded me ALOT of Woodward Ave in downtown Detroit. You got some people living upstairs in lofts/apartments, but no action at street level.
May 30, 200916 yr There were three buildings that were demolished sans the facades. They were to serve as an entry point to the diagonal-elevators that would take you to the 25th floor of Museum Plaza that is on hold right now. The entryway would contain a few restaurants and shops. As for West Main, it was always more offices and museums than anything (it is dubbed Museum Row), and contains more office condominiums than residents. Most of the new residential units are east of downtown, towards Papa John's Cardinal Stadium and Butchertown.
