July 21, 200420 yr Sandusky's CBD ain't looking too bad! Nothing like a kick ass public space in the middle of town to set the mood. Any shots of Lake Erie? Are there any good vantage points downtown for viewing the Lake (i.e. lakeside restaurants or parks)?
July 21, 200420 yr JohnUofM99, predominately sandusky has its back towards lake erie, which is dotted with some industry (to the west) and docks/warehouse/marinas/Cedar Point to the east. Go check the photos i already have on display at the main page of the forum
July 21, 200420 yr I think there are some highrise apt. bldgs. along the lakefront just east of downtown. They might be senior citizen housing. There are also some upmarket condos along the lake in Sandusky.
July 21, 200420 yr "mayday, do you know this girl? is she single?" Nope, that campaign was handled by an outside agency so who knows where they dug her up. Get this though - an irate customer called one of our reps because they were "morally offended" that Key would use her as our spokesmodel - they mistakenly thought she was some hoochie from one of those Bachelor/Bachelorette reality shows. Oh, and I can't believe that the folks at the branch would let the signage slip like that. Oh, and nice pics ya got there! clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
July 21, 200420 yr JohnUofM99' date=' [/quote'] How many times do I have to tell you that I didn't go to U of Minnessota!!!
July 22, 200420 yr There used to be some really impressive industrial architectur on that waterfront, west of downtown. A big loft/pier structure, and a grain elevator. That art deco courthouse is sort of neat, esp. with that clocktower, which appears on nautical charts as a navagtion landmark (I used to have some navigation charts of Sandusky Bay & harbor + Kellys Island)
July 22, 200420 yr the industrial complex is still there.......but apparently coldayman didn't want to include that photo
July 22, 200420 yr That "art deco" courthouse was actually not originally an art deco courthouse as you can tell from the photo that shows the first floor. It is obscured by trees and shrubs, but actually the Erie County Courthouse was built in 1874 in Second Empire style. It was remodelled into that art deco look in 1936-39. A couple of other courthouses in Ohio have received that sort of drastic remodelling too. I guess some might consider that Erie County's remodelling was more successful than some of the others, but I would prefer the original which was much more ornate with mansard roof etc.
July 22, 200420 yr or you could just have an ugly ass couthouse like the one in mansfield (richland co.)
January 23, 200619 yr Here's a link to a post card of the original Erie County courthouse: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~maggieoh/Courthouses/images/ch2.jpg I got it off of the Ohio Counties Courthouse Project: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~maggieoh/Courthouses/county_courthouses.html
September 8, 200915 yr For the amount of times i've been to cedar point I've never made it to the CBD of Sandusky. One of these days ill leave early enough to drive through. Great pics! Here's looking at you, Tommy boy!!
September 9, 200915 yr I am glad this thread popped up because I need to settle a debate with my wife. We visited the Sandusky CBD on Monday this last weekend. My impression was that it had a ton of potential but is still largely vacant and waiting for development. My wife got the impression that Sandusky's CBD was high brow and snooty??? I have no idea where she got that impression from, she seems to think there is some wealthy neighborhood very near by. Is she correct?
