Cincinnati, exploring the eastern front

Authored by Sherman Cahal on June 9, 2009 at UrbanUp

As one may have noticed, UrbanUp has been in a bit of a flux lately. The database was ultimately reset and rebuilt, so this is the first true update to the web-site in months. To kickoff the site's reopening, I'm presenting over 200 new photographs of Cincinnati, Ohio from downtown to the East End. This is the first of three photographic series covering the Queen City.

Rooflines

Part of an ongoing project that I will ultimately present at a gallery, Rooflines is a series of photographs that exhibit the colorful and vivid rooflines of various houses in the Columbia-Tusculum neighborhood.

Thank goodness!!!  I've been waiting for this for at least a year now.  Great photographs, the Columbia Tusculum shots are just beautiful.

I also love the coastal feel you get when driving along Eastern Avenue through the East End now.  All the massive balconies/patios, large windows with everything oriented towards the river really gives you this sense.  Add in the collection of riverfront parks and the soon-to-be Ohio River Bike Trail and you'll really get this feeling.

Great stuff as always, Sherman!

I love those homes.  So colorful and well taken care of.  That seems like a gorgeous area and now I want to come to Cincinnati even more haha.  Thanks for the awesome photos!

a great row. very colorful.

what style are those? let me take a shot:

Hahaha.. sounds about right.  I thought of San Fran a lot while viewing those photos.

Nice

Well done.

We missed Columbia-Tusculum during our weekend Cincinnati visit a month ago. Truly a shame as I am a certified Victorian architectural junkie. (during our 9 days on the road we travelled through 8 states to photograph mainly Victorian era architecture-Cincinnati was the centerpiece) Beautiful photos and they demonstate that colors really bring out the character in Victorian houses. It was heartening to see many Victorians in Cincinnati going from pale white to nice period colors. Of course, some of Columbia-Tusculum houses belong in the "painted Ladies" category (meaning sometimes the colors are not historic) but they sure look great in your collection. Nice work!

I like that set a lot; the clarity and saturation of the colors and the simplicity of the forms will make a striking gallery exhibit.
