Children's this fall selected NBBJ as architect and a team led by Turner, Walsh and Smoot construction companies to design and build the tower. The addition aiming for a 2028 opening will house intensive care and specialties including cancer and blood disease. Among other projects in a multi-year expansion along Livingston Avenue, the Wexner Research Institute's fourth building is expected to open in May, with a fifth planned as a future project, and construction continues on Livingston Avenue Orthopedic and Surgery Center. In 2022, Children's became a true health system after acquiring Toledo's pediatric hospital. Meanwhile, royalties and other income from licensing hospital-developed technology remain strong, hitting $69 million in 2021, driven largely by increasing global sales of one of the first gene therapies ever approved. That money goes back into recruiting faculty and funding more research. And the hospital has two more gene therapy spinouts developing technology, as well as a spinoff in clinical trials with a way to combat antibiotic-resistant respiratory infections.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/12/30/2022-in-review-columbus-hospital-expansions.html Oh wow, wonder how tall they are planning on going, can’t wait to see it
December 30, 20222 yr I’m going to guess 15 floors. Won’t complain if it’s taller though 😉 OSU tower to the NW of downtown, and Children’s to the SE should look pretty nice!
January 8, 20232 yr I was gonna go around here and get some progress pics too. Good thing I decided not too 😂

January 9, 20232 yr Signage going up on RB4. It doesn’t look like ground has broken for RB5, but it doesn’t sound like there’s a specific timeline for that one yet, either.
March 10, 20232 yr Interesting post from Meyers Architects about the RMH expansion. Their story shares a site walk through, and the very last post in the story is attached below. I think this is legit? Idk been a long time since I was around this site. Edited March 10, 20232 yr by smjjms

March 11, 20232 yr I wonder if work is gearing up for RB5? A pedestrian tunnel to the conference building has recently gone up, and there’s ongoing utilities work on either side of it. RB3 and 4 can be seen in the background.
March 31, 20232 yr Wow that's a lot of steel and concrete for essentially a 3-story residential building. Very uncommon and built much more like a hospital than apartments or a hotel

August 6, 20231 yr Since the first tower was built they have introduced two new master facilities plans. With each, the materials for facades have changed a bit. I am wondering if this will be an exact replica in terms of materials when compared to the original tower or will it vary slightly to match the newer look that they have been going with since ~2015
August 7, 20231 yr Has there been an official announcement from Children's Hospital? Or are we just speculating? Beat you to it!!

December 15, 20231 yr I'll have to take a photo since I drive everyday past Children's Hospital, but the new tower addition appears to be under heavy construction. I'm not sure what you call it, but the Drill rig has been out all week drilling into the ground with additional heavy machinery to put what appears to be large utility pipes/tunnels.

I drove by on my way to Planks but I didn't get a chance to snap a photo. The site is mostly cleared and shoring is stockpiled. Will it be a 12 or 15 story building?

December 18, 20231 yr Here's two extremely bad photos I took of the construction site on Saturday, December 16th.

December 27, 20231 yr I don’t remember seeing anywhere that this would have an underground parking garage, but I am here for it.
April 22, 20241 yr Snatched a couple quick ones of NCH as I passed by on Parsons (Please ignore the reflection as I can't put that window down now because some like 90 yr old lady turned into my car 😂)
April 28, 20241 yr Tried to get a few from NCH a little earlier since the job site is quiet today, but it's still a tricky site to get pics from
May 13, 20241 yr Livingston Orthopedic and Surgery Center (5-3-24) Tower 2 Near East / E. 18th parking garage expansion
May 22, 20241 yr I know there’s been speculation that it was going to be 15 stories, but I believe this is the first time it’s been reported as such in the media. Nationwide Children's starts construction on 15-story critical care tower “The project will extend the arc of the existing 12-story tower along Parsons Avenue, according to plans submitted to the city. Plans also include a new underground parking garage and a tunnel beneath Parsons Avenue that connects the main hospital to its growing west campus along Livingston Avenue. The 847,000-square-foot tower, an outpatient surgery center, another research buildings and other facilities are one portion of the $3.3 billion strategic plan announced three years ago. The plan also encompasses research, setting national pediatric behavioral health standards, adding new clinical specialties and reducing health disparities. The top floor will extend over a portion of the north end of the 2012 building, according to plans. A rendering included in March construction documents filed with the city shows an exterior facade similar to its sibling. The plans indicate that basement excavation started in January and the structure itself would start to rise in May.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/05/22/nationwide-childrens-tower-construction.html
