November 30, 20213 yr Children’s currently trying to compete with OSU for the title of “Crane City.” (There are a couple more I couldn’t fit in the frame. Unfortunately, the tower crane was taken down a couple weeks ago, though.) There isn’t much you can see from the road yet, but on the left side of the image is where the ACS will be located, on top of what is now a parking lot. On the right, a parking garage will sit between the BHP and the conference center. Not included in the photo, but just a bit further to the east, most of the exterior cladding has gone up on Research Building IV, and the ground is currently being prepped for Research Building V.

Although one tower crane was removed, two more will be going up soon. With these projects, plus the new inpatient tower, RMH expansion, and the Schiff mixed-use apts, this is going to be yet another super busy corridor over the next several years.
January 13, 20223 yr The Dispatch ran an article earlier this week entitled "Ten development projects that could shape Columbus for decades to come". The Children's Hospital developments were among those ten development projects shaping the future of Columbus: https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2022/01/10/columbus-development-10-major-construction-projects-watch/8983664002/ Here was the section about Children's Hospital: Nationwide Children's Hospital What's going on: The seemingly never-ending development around Nationwide Children's Hospital won't end in 2022. In addition to the Interstate-70 redesign, work continues on the hospital campus itself along East Livingston and Parsons avenues, with a new parking garage and expansion of the Ronald McDonald House. Although most of the work isn't expected to start this year, the hospital unveiled a $3.3-billion expansion plan that will include a 12-story inpatient tower, an orthopedic and surgery center, and two new research centers. What to watch: Few institutions have had a greater impact on their neighborhoods than Nationwide Children's Hospital. With the hospital's continuing expansion, look for private development to continue along Parsons and Livingston avenues, and north of Interstate-70 toward East Main Street. Many UO posters have noted the visibly dramatic change that these Children's Hospital developments have made from I-70. I don't have any photos from I-70, but I do have the next best thing. Below are two photos from the Grant Avenue Bridge which goes over I-70. The two streetview photos were taken from the same location seven years apart, looking southeast toward the hospital campus expansion area along Livingston Avenue. August 2014 September 2021

March 10, 20223 yr Tons of activity still continues on NCH’s campus. Tower crane base now in place at the site of the future ASC building.

March 27, 20223 yr I go out of town for the week and Children’s construction ramps up! Tower crane now up and running at the future surgery center. And the site for the RMH expansion has been cleared and equipment is arriving.
June 4, 20223 yr Second tower crane base is in place. This should be the shorter of the two cranes that will be used for the surgery center.

During that route, I think I counted 10 different tower cranes in various parts of the city. I could see both of these from 670 which was pretty cool.
July 24, 20222 yr A couple more angles of the ASC that’s started springing from the ground. It’s gonna have a pretty decent footprint. It’s hard to see in this picture, but it looks like some foundation work may have started immediately west of Research Building IV. I don’t know if they are getting started on RB5, or if it’s something else (some maps show it going up to the north of #4, but I’ve seen others showing it at the west, fronting Livingston, so I’m not sure).

August 23, 20222 yr I actually can wrap my head around the paint swatch as filler on the big blank wall, but I can't understand the decision to paint 60% of the north and south sides with white vertical and horizontal stripes and then the remaining 40% in ombre. It just looks dirty or like they ran out of paint. It's very confusing.

September 2, 20222 yr Big update on the new NCH inpatient tower: Nationwide Children's selects NBBJ, Turner-Walsh-Smoot team to design, build 12-story (or more) hospital “Nationwide Children's Hospital has selected NBBJ as architect and a team led by Turner, Walsh and Smoot construction companies to design and build a new main hospital tower, which might end up taller than its 12-story twin. The flagship of a $3.3 billion strategic plan is expected to start construction in the first quarter of 2024, aiming for a 2028 opening, said Patty McClimon, senior vice president of strategic and facilities planning for the Columbus pediatric hospital. The precise cost estimate for the tower alone awaits design and the state of supply and labor costs more than a year from now, she told Columbus Business First. Depending on space needs articulated in the design, the tower might need more than 12 stories. "We’re thinking of it as an intensive care tower: Our sickest patients who need the most advanced technologies," McClimon said. "They are the patients who have the most intense physical space needs."‘ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/09/02/nationwide-childrens-tower-nbbj-turner-walsh-smoot.html
September 2, 20222 yr Welp, here's the new project some were pining for over in the Random Developments thread.

I would go at least 20 floors-just to be sure and get that space now-they will probably need it in the future so best to go big lol. A nice landmark building that really stands out-why should they let OSU hospitals get all of the spotlight? Amirite? Edited September 2, 20222 yr by Toddguy
October 27, 20222 yr The Orthopedic and Surgery Center from the side and rear and the new parking garage looks like it could be finished up soon
December 30, 20222 yr I think some of the construction timeline information might be new. “Construction is expected to start in early 2024 for the flagship of the hospital's latest $3.3 billion strategic expansion plan – extending its main hospital tower northward with an addition that might end up taller than its 12-story twin. Children's this fall selected NBBJ as architect and a team led by Turner, Walsh and Smoot construction companies to design and build the tower. The addition aiming for a 2028 opening will house intensive care and specialties including cancer and blood disease. Among other projects in a multi-year expansion along Livingston Avenue, the Wexner Research Institute's fourth building is expected to open in May, with a fifth planned as a future project, and construction continues on Livingston Avenue Orthopedic and Surgery Center. In 2022, Children's became a true health system after acquiring Toledo's pediatric hospital. Meanwhile, royalties and other income from licensing hospital-developed technology remain strong, hitting $69 million in 2021, driven largely by increasing global sales of one of the first gene therapies ever approved. That money goes back into recruiting faculty and funding more research. And the hospital has two more gene therapy spinouts developing technology, as well as a spinoff in clinical trials with a way to combat antibiotic-resistant respiratory infections.” https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/12/30/2022-in-review-columbus-hospital-expansions.html
