Some of y'all might recall those threads on "modern Kettering" and "wartime/postwar Fairborn" that I posted a few years ago.  Well, it looks like I wasn't a lone nut for being interested in that stuff....

Preservationists to study post-WWII housing in area

State historians, preservationists will look at architecture in Dayton and its suburbs including Oakwood, Kettering and Fairborn.

DAYTON — A world war had ended and industrial states like Ohio were booming. Returning soldiers found good-paying factory jobs, started families and bought their dream home in brand-new suburbs. Schools, parks and shopping centers followed.

There's a particular building stock built in the 40's and I wish I knew the appropriate name for it.  Alot of these homes were small, square, and brick.  Some had some elaborate stonework around the foundation and front doorways.  I'd like to see these types of homes preserved.  What's great is there are hundreds of blocks of these homes in many cities that are still intact.

Is this up in Michigan or in Ohio?

Both states

You might be talking about that cottage style that was popular in the 1940s, but also starting in the very late 1930s, coming out of the Depression.  The sources were english cottages and the US cape cod style.
