The Hilton Columbus Downtown Hotel now has a construction camera set up (link below).  It looks like the camera is mounted on the roof of the Nationwide Insurance HQ Tower, which is located a block south of the hotel construction site.

An update on the Hilton Columbus Downtown Hotel from its construction camera (link below) which is mounted on the roof of the Nationwide Insurance HQ Tower, a block south of the hotel construction site.  The previous image was from June 2011.  The below image is from Sept. 30, 2011.

I don't think the hotel adds to the area being more of a destination, but is rather a response to the popularity and density of what's been on offer here. And here I was wondering who this Columbo newbie was: not so new ;) .

And here I was wondering where Columbusite was.

Pablo, a poster at Columbus Underground, recently got a tour inside the under-construction Downtown Hilton Hotel.  He posted the photos from that tour here at flickr and here at CU.  Lots of concrete and lots of scaffolding.  The interior atrium is really something - even at this stage.

Hotel looks to be coming along nicely. Is also suppose to open on time (september 2012)

This hotel was listed as a factor in selecting Columbus as the 2013 host of the NHL All Stars Game, as well.

Yes.  The NHL did note the addition of the 500+ full-service hotel rooms as one of the determining factors when awarding Columbus the 2013 All-Star Game.  Looks like the hotel did make the area more of a destination after all.

It's also adding jobs too.  From Business First: Downtown Hilton to add hundreds of jobs

Looks like an expansion of the Arena District, but with a higher glass-to-brick ratio.

Finally, here's an updated view of the hotel from its construction camera (link below).  Day and night views:

I noticed a construction project/crane in the bottom left of the construction webcam.  I am pretty sure that is a separate project, correct?

The brick facing is nearly to the top of 14-story hotel.  The new image clearly shows the progress of two other construction projects near the Hilton site.  Just west of the hotel (to the left in the image) are the wood forms for a vertical addition to the CFA Vine Street Parking Garage.  South of the hotel (to the bottom left in the image) is the steel framing for a 5-story, 200,000 sq. ft. Nationwide Insurance office building.

Two recent views of the Downtown Hilton Hotel under construction from around the web.  The first photo is a street level view from Vine and High Streets looking south from Columbus Underground

The second is from one of the upper floors of a downtown office building located just south of Nationwide & High from CBusCommuter.  This photo looks north and shows the Hilton Hotel framed between the 1970's era Nationwide Insurance HQ Tower to the left and the 1980's era Hyatt Hotel to the right.  Nationwide Insurance's nearby five-story, 200,000 square foot office building at 10 W. Nationwide Boulevard is also seen under construction in this photo.

I cannot wait until the sidewalk is again open. That block is horrid to pass because Nationwide now has it closed on the Park Street side as well.

High St. was ugly over the weekend just sound of Nationwide & High while crews painted the skywalk "Nationwide Blue" - doesn't look too bad, big improvement over rusted dark brown

Yeah, much better improvement for such a hideous skywalk.

If you really squint, it makes it look like the skywalk says "SNSNSNSN", reminding you that you just left the Short North.

That was really fast. It's going to be weird passing by here. Not the best design, but like I thought it looks very Arena District. I imagine Char Bar won't mind the extra foot traffic, not to mention how accessible North Market is from here.

Convention center Hilton names Sage owner as executive chef

DAI-Hilton-Gallerie-Bar-&-Bistro-2.jpg?v=1

The Hilton Columbus Downtown hotel next to the Greater Columbus Convention Center didn’t have to look far for its culinary leaders.

The under-construction destination Friday announced the hiring of two Columbus restaurant veterans to set the food and drink tables for its Gallerie Bar & Bistro and the hotel as a whole. Michael Mejia is director of food and beverage, and Bill Glover is executive chef.

More construction photos of the new Downtown Hilton Hotel from Columbus Underground's Construction Roundup - July 2012

View along High Street further north.  The structure being constructed in front of the hotel is a glass enclosed overhead walkway that will connect the Hilton Hotel with the Greater Columbus Convention Center on the west side of High Street.

More photos of the glass enclosed overhead walkway that will connect the Hilton Hotel with the Greater Columbus Convention Center on the west side of High Street.  It looks like it is getting very close to being installed.  Here's some more recent photos of the walkway from the MyUrbanhood twitter feed, the Dispatch, and the Columbus Underground thread 'Downtown Hilton Hotel - News & Updates':

I mean, if there has to be a skywalk...that's a damn nice one.

From the photo, it already looks installed over High.

^ That last image from August 23 is actually a rendering, not a photo.  Spooky how realistic some renderings can be, no?

The "for real" skywalk got installed earlier today over High Street.  Here's some of the first pics of the installation from the Downtown Hilton Hotel - News & Updates thread at Columbus Underground.  More photos at the thread link.

The first two photos were taken from the Convention Center/North Market area and look south toward the rest of downtown.

Usually don't dig skywalks, but in this case it's a necessary evil.

Also, a really neat 2 minute time-lapse video of the skywalk's installation was posted at Columbus Underground.  It's a vimeo video, which I've never had good luck in embedding here.  So to view it - click the above CU link and scroll to the bottom of that page.

The Hilton Columbus Downtown facebook page also had some photos of the hotel signage going up.  Many more construction photos posted at this part of their facebook page, both interior and exterior:

News about the opening of the Downtown Hilton Hotel from this article in last Sunday's Dispatch.  The article featured a series of rolling opening dates for the new hotel.

According to the hotel's director of sales and marketing in the article: "The projected opening is mid-October" and "The hotel's first group is booked for the week starting October 15."  But "declined to say when the guests are set to arrive, or the size or even the name of the group".

According to the article, the director did say that "the group will not fill the hotel and this was by design".  Adding that "it's natural in the hotel business to ramp up your occupancy when you're brand new".  Also according to the article, "At the moment, October 28 is the first night that guests not affiliated with a group can book a room at the new hotel".

On my way from Cincy to Cleveland Wednesday I took a detour and got off the highway, went up High Street, and got on I-670 to bypass all the I-71/70 interchange garbage that was backed up like crazy. I passed by this Hilton and was quite surprised at how much I liked it. It's fairly simple, but nicely done. The glass canopy over the sidewalk was interesting as was the skybridge. I'd like to see more of this style of architecture built in Ohio's cities.

Downtown Hilton planning nearly $500K restaurant and bar overhaul

hilton-downtown-columbus-new-bar-schematic-plan-10212015-2*750xx2234-1257-0-1.jpg

The Hilton Columbus Downtown is hardly three years old, but it’s already getting a nearly $500,000 renovation.

Guest complaints about noise from the hotel's drinking and dining areas, which has been drifting up through the large atrium, prompted Hilton to make plans to alter the layout of its Gallerie bar and make sound-dampening improvements to its adjacent Gallerie restaurant.
