August 2, 20222 yr No development update, just a question. Has there ever been any movement or mention of development on the large parking lot at/around 659 N Fourth St? I poked around and the lot appears to be owned by an I Suppose LLC and the church, so I doubt it, but was curious. I was recently in Little Italy Boston and just wish our “Italian” Village had literally anything similar. (In my dream world) I think the lot is big enough it could string a few cool designs together to create a little Italian centered spot, with gelato, cannoli, pasta, restaurant patios, scattered. Just had such strong jealousy of Boston I was wondering if something like that was even feasible in Columbus. And, on an unrelated note, as I was poking around I noticed the hookah lot and the lot next to fox in the snow was recently transferred to a “New Victorians LLC.” Curious to see if anything spurs from that.

I think the second phase along 5th is the same design as when the originally submitted it.

It does not look as bad as most of them do though. There are just so many from the 60's and 70's apartment complexes that look so God-awful I just react violently to any of them. Sort of like others do with glass block. Always nice to see more building, more progress though.

I think it's because it's all one long building with nothing being broken up by different heights or design changes. Mansards aren't usually a block long historically.

When they had that original design for that one building in Italian Village along Fifth(can't remember which one but it was one of the first)they had a really nice mix of styles including Mansard and it did not bother me because as you said it was a nice mix. But what was built was quite different of course.

Not just Clintonville but plenty of other neighborhood projects could use equal attention to detail and aesthetics.

I guess I was saying, if developers presented buildings like this in Clintonville, they would have a better chance of being approved. This style should be all over but Clintonville specifically would probably be more open to it.

I think The Stella will be four (maybe 5?) stories and The Lusso will be six. (i couldn't double check though, my CBF subscription expired lol) I checked The Lusso today too on my way through and it's not vertical yet, but it doesn't look too far off!

That also makes me wonder, will we eventually see 4th converted to two way in IV with all the residential and retail that keeps popping up? I think doing that and adding a protected bike lane would really help.

It took a significant amount of effort, stipulations, etc to get Summit/4th/Indianola where they are today let alone something as drastic as that. And yes, the precedent is set with Indianola alone but the state doesn't give up what it has easily.

Fourth St (as well as 5th Ave) is going on to need some safety improvements, since it’s only going to continue to get busier. I still don’t think my friend’s shop has reopened afyer a car ran into it last month.

I moved here 13 years ago, and lived all around this area and everything you look at is new!!! I feel like people like to take cheap shots at Columbus sometimes, but you can't deny the insane increase in density that has taken place here. People complain non stop of the 5-12 story buildings not being enough, but you cannot discount the infill and connectivity that has happened in the last decade.
