Posted July 8, 200915 yr Not exactly Battery park...but I put an offer in on a place on Father Caruso Drive. Having an inspection done tomorrow. The white town houses built about 10 years ago the ones that face the train tracks/park/lake. Anyone know anything about these places? the builder? And to those folks living over in the area, how is the neighborhood coming along? Been through it, had dinner at Stone Mad when we first saw the place... was 1 out of 2 with kids getting out of the street when they saw a car coming.
July 8, 200915 yr moving from Tremont.... well just south of the 14th st bridge over 490. Dont know what else to call it, but the Tremont sign is on the other end of the bridge. I figure the areas are similar....Detroit Rd looks about as sketchy as Clark between Scranton and 25th.
July 8, 200915 yr That's still Tremont - but trust me when I say that while Detroit between Max Hayes and the West 50s *looks* rough, Clark is much sketchier, imho. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
July 8, 200915 yr That's good to know. any other insight? How sketchy does edgewater get? how safe is the tunnel between the neighborhood and the park? Is biking to anywhere a viable option? My fiance moved here from NYC. I have lived in Tremont for 7 years, she has been here for 2. I told her that Tremont and Detriot/Shoreway were similar, with Tremont being further along the gentrification curve. We walk a lot to the bars/restaurants and often hop the 81 to go downtown for games or just to go out down there. Neither one of use is "ascared" of an urban environment. But part of that is understanding your surroundings and paying attention.
July 8, 200915 yr ^I've biked from downtown to Edgewater on numerous occasions and never found the tunnel or Edgewater 'sketchy'. I actually think it's a really nice ride in the evening especially if you bike through downtown and along the lake to the East.
July 8, 200915 yr I personally find the tunnels to be just fine. What do you expect for a concrete tunnel that runs under a 3 lane highway and railroad track? As long as its clean and the well lit I don't see that any further aesthetic improvements would be anything more than a waste of money* *Unless they want to redo the tunnel with brick and archways and make it look all old timey. :-D
July 8, 200915 yr Re: Biking. I live near the Battery Park neighborhood and biking is, IMO, the most viable transportation option for lots of neighborhoods including; Ohio City, Clifton-Edgewater, Tremont, & Downtown, which are all under 3 miles. Lakewood, Asia Town, and Cleveland State are all under 5 miles. I've never encountered a problem at the tunnel at W65 and it seems to get more and more popular with each passing year. The tunnel at W76 is definitely more sketchy, but it is not bike accessible anyways (stairs) and is slated for a full overhaul in the coming years. The transit options are a bit better in the DS than Tremont, with both the #26 & #45 servicing downtown and a RedLine stop about 10-15 minutes away (W.61 & Madison) Re: Detroit Ave, lots of new investment between W.58 and W73, see http://www.gordonsquare.org/ Overall, I'd highly recommend the area!
July 8, 200915 yr It is not the aesthetics of the tunnel itself. It would be the used condoms, broken bottles of cheap wine and beer, broken lighting, graffiti, neighborhood youth looking for a "donation" for ensured safe passage. For an example look at the pedestrian bridge in Tremont over 490 connecting 11th st. I am a 215 lb man who played rugby and wrestled in college I don't look or act like a "victim". I have walked across this bridge twice....and never again, I avoid it like the plague...nothing good will happen on or near that bridge. Bad things happen..it is easier for them to occur where the light of day does not shine. I really wouldn't want that area to be within a football field of my home.
July 8, 200915 yr The W.65th tunnel is very nice. I love all the mosaic artwork on the south side. Occassionally there is some broken glass. It is well-lit.
July 8, 200915 yr Volunteers need to keep litter/broken glass regularly kept up...because the city won't do it. I have learned that if you want litter kept at bay, and do not want to attract more via the broken window theory, you have to clean it up regularly via block clubs, etc. (not just once a year, rather at least once per month) It is the most obvious and preventable visual eyesore that contributes to eroding the value of the neighborhood. Left unabated, it only gets worse and worse. It is also unsafe for bikes to have to ride over it. No one likes cleaning up other people's messes, but this needs to be done. The bike tunnel was seemingly ok every time I have ridden through it.
July 9, 200915 yr ^that's because there are volunteers that keep it clean. There's a guy who always paints over the graffiti too. It is well used and well cared for.

Been here since '98. Tons better now than it was then and I think it is nowhere but up from here! Pm me and I can give you all the info you want and more. All the phases were built by separate builders. My phase (2) seems to have the most trouble, but I still am happy overall. Be sure to have them check plumbing and HVAC ssues. Were you part of a younger couple touring the place with a real estate agent last week? If so, I was the guy you talked to while I was on my deck.

July 9, 200915 yr Edgewater can be sketchy at times, be carefeul of the guys parked backed in at upper lot, shady weirdos out cruising. But overall the Park is okay. Very nice actually. I've noticed a lot more "normal" people visiting there the past few years. It really is an asset for the city that should be receiving a lot more investment. That's good to know. any other insight? July 9, 200915 yr I was thinking it's been a while since I've suspended a forumer - those of you off-topic repeat offenders are going to the first on the list if you don't shape up. *EDIT* Apparently, someone didn't get the hint and posted an off-topic post three minutes after I posted this warning. They have a day off - folks, respect the hatchet. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
July 9, 200915 yr Ksonic99 ---check PMs. But for the public forum, the Casa Belvedere basics are...... We're a 20 unit condominium deveopment set at the corner of W.69th and Father Caruso. We were among the first of the "gentrification" projects in the neighborhood with the first people coming in 1996. (I've been there since '98). Upsides include great Lakefront views, easy access to the park and a very quick commute downtown. The neighborhood is still in transition though. Leave your garage door open and your bicycle is gonna dissappear. But I haven't had any fear of "real" crime in the recent years. I think we finally have critical mass here in the area abutting the railroad to deter any serious criminal element. Edgewater park is a great facility, but there have been a few complaints among neighbors (female) who were accosted/threatened (no serious violence) while jogging in the last couple of years. The 65th tunnel is clean and safe now though and dergon_gf uses it to get to Edgewater marina all the time. Biking into downtown is definately an option .....right down Detroit, over the bridge and onto Superior. We take the scooter all the time. The whole business/bar/restaurant development is a very recent (and welcomed) phenomenon and I am doing my part in supporting the businesses. edit: also please move in then we can try to change the name to something better. I'd prefer "Edgewater Bluffs" or "Lakeview Heights" or something hoity toity like that ;)
