Of course, when at Lakeview Cemetery - you have to put a quarter on Rockefeller's headstone (supposedly for good fortune):

Found this (apparently it's a 9mm casing) on the ground near City Hall - saw two cops and said "uhh, this was on the ground". Without missing a beat, the one said "well, where's your clip?"  I pointed at my camera and said "THIS is the only thing I shoot with!".

Fantastic! How do you get these so clear!!!

Mayday, all of your Cleveland threads are fantastic.  When I view them, it's like I'm there.  What lenses did you get with the XSi?  You couldn't have been shooting all of that with the 18-55 kit lens.  Or did you?  Amazing photos as always.

I have two lenses, the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS, and the Sigma 18-50mm f/3.5-5.6 DC. The Canon lens is great and was part of a bundle from Amazon with the XSi ($100 off the lens, so it was about $700 for the lens and camera). The Sigma does an alright job considering the price (I paid $90 for it). The images aren't nearly as crisp as the Canon, and the color can get washed out but most of the time it takes a decent shot.

1. Mother Nature - that day was really low humdity and few clouds. 2. I invested in a better camera in January (Canon XSi). 3. I fully disclose that I use Photoshop to tweak what the camera produces. The photos I post essentially represent what I saw at the moment I clicked the shutter - I have something of a photographic memory, and I like my photos to simply show what I saw (i.e. I avoid oversaturating colors, adding special effects) etc.

For example, this is what the camera captured:

And this is how I adjusted it (rotated, adjusted highlights/shadows, tweaked levels, upped the saturation by 10% and finally applied a sharpen filter):

Stunning as usual.

^Regardless, you always have awesome shots and angles.

Gorgeous work!

Very good philosophy, as often a camera doesn't catch exactly what the eye saw at that particular second, so touching up a bit to re-capture what was seen the moment the camera clicked is to capture the truth of the second.

that's just tooo tooo tooo much work.

Stuperpendous!

Fantastic! I just got off the phone with my friend who was walking down Clifton Blvd in town for work. I wish I was there!

I love how blue the lake looks on a clear day :)

Excellent shots!  The clarity is amazing....

Damn you and your fancy photography. What are you trying to do, kill us?

Excellent as always.  I have been wanting to get that 55-250 IS lens you have because it isn't that expensive.  Saw it used once and I should have sucked it up.  I shoot with a fixed 200mm f/2.8 many times...but no IS.

Excellent work. Where is that piece of granite that you took the reflection shot? That is a pretty sweet pic.

1.  It's been stumping me as much as you  :(

2.  If you are refering to the statues on the superior side of the Metzenbaum Courthouse, the answer is no one in particular... they are just symbolic sculpture.

ahhh.... I was wondering why the reflections curved so much... Did you do much PS tweaking on that shot?

'eh I've seen better construction workers

Excellent photos, as usual!

I LOVE Cleveland!

Construction workers. Heh.

MayDay, great pics, but you're supposed to put dimes on Rockefeller's grave, not quarters.

"John D. Rockefeller died in 1937, just months shy of his 98th birthday. The man who started his career in Northeast Ohio and who helped to fund so many Cleveland institutions returned to Cleveland to be buried at Lake View Cemetery under a simple obelisk.

Following his habit of giving dimes to the poor, visitors to Lake View place dimes on his grave in hopes of gaining Rockefeller-like wealth."

That is correct! I think the reason I ended up losing my wallet in Lakeview after a jog with the dog, is because I neglected to place a dime on J.D.'s grave!

Then I would think you'd be saving the 15 cents, wouldn't ya?! Considering what a ruthless businessman he was, I suspect the ghost of Johnny Rock would just keep the change! skull.gif
