July 11, 200915 yr Why did you need to go to Sydney, when you could hope and pray that someday people will be able to do a similar thing again in Cincinnati??? It's basically the same... Haha! Funny! I love Cincinnati, but trust me, this bridge is much larger than anything that crosses the beautiful Ohio River... and the view from the top is spectacular. This photo doesn't do it justice.
July 11, 200915 yr The suits are for safety as required by city law. You get strapped to a track that prevents you from falling. There is really no way to fall with the gear they put you in...and the cloths also make it easier for the guide to see everyone. The planks you walk along though are as wide as a sidewalk. "The Rocks" neighborhood below the bridge on land is a really cool neighborhood. What little of historic Sydney left that is not covered by towers. Yes, if you get a chance, go.. It is a great place. Stay for 3 months if you can. Best and cheapest time to go is Now through September. I know a great travel agent who can get great prices.
July 11, 200915 yr Syndey has changed so much since I was last there. I'm supposed to be there now, but I cancelled that. I'd rather go in their spring.
July 11, 200915 yr Ha! I thought so.. Yes, Spring is a good time to go. I am supposed to go back in September/October October.

July 12, 200915 yr Love it - I wish Cleveland offered something similar with the Detroit-Superior Bridge (especially at night). clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
July 12, 200915 yr The bit with the Purple People Bridge Climb Experience was that it was overrated -- it's no taller than say, being on top of NOTL's roof, and the bright purple jumpsuits, the stupid restrictions on photography, and the steep prices really did nothing for their business.
July 12, 200915 yr Love it - I wish Cleveland offered something similar with the Detroit-Superior Bridge (especially at night). I was thinking the same thing, but if they did that, they'd have to put up an eight-foot-high aluminum grid railing first to obstruct the view and make sure people couldn't get decent photos.
July 12, 200915 yr I love Sydney! Thanks for the pictures...wish I had done that when I was there...but ran out of time. Can not believe it is 15 years ago already!!!
July 12, 200915 yr Thanks for the comments. I have more photos from the city I may post. Re: The Det/Sup Bridge, Yes, it would be cool. On the Harbour Bridge, they allow you to take photos (I thought..but come to think of it, I was too busy watching my step because some of this was terrifying!) Their was actually an additional walk way as wide as a sidewalk for most of this climb. Where we are standing in the photo, was not at the top. The tippy top was by where the flags are on the top. I thought a couple flags atop the Det/Sup Bridge would be a nifty addition too. What most cannot see in mostly all of the photos of the Sydney Harbour Bridge is the very long approaches with arches similar to the Stone Bridge in the Flats...and there are offices and stores inside that part of the bridge...and it is also where you have to take what seems like 20 minutes suiting up. There were about 10 other people on this particular climb. One other note, I think there was only one death during construction...and on that space between the stone pylons and the steel, it is about 25 feet, but in pictures it looks like a tiny slither between the stone and steel. If you look at the buildings in the background, you can see the top of the Center Point Tower...a revolving OB tower with restaurant. It is that gold looking thing similar in style to the CN tower.
