Posted July 13, 200915 yr For those who do not know, the first friday of every month the people of Canton gather downtown to walk through the various shops and get drunk in public. I am sure most other cities have a similar monthly event. My wife and I have been attending first friday for 3? years now and attendance has really started to boom in the summer months. I'll have to remember my camera for the next first friday. I took these pictures mostly for the Saxton gallery grand opening ( I had my bicycle so no inside pictures). The rest of the pictures are just misc. shots of downtown I took on my Raleigh Pro, they were originally posted on bike forums, so you may notice my bike in all of the pictures :|. 2nd street is more like an alley. I guess it's Canton's lesser version of 4th street in Cleveland. This is Studio 5, it was redeveloped last year into live/work art apartments. I had my doubts but they all seem to be thriving a year later. Here is a close up of the "grand opening" crowd. The Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography is a very very nice renovation of a former downtown Cadillac dealership. The upper floor has a "bridge like" skeleton that holds the ceiling so that the entire first floor contained no support beams. I have read that at one point it was the largest unsupported floor space between NY and Chicago. I will post better pictures of this in it's own thread, the restoration was top notch. Misc pics: Stark County court house: Chamber of commerce (my favorite building downtown) The giant orange juicer Mckinley Monument: I'll have to dig through my photos for more Canton images. Canton needs another representative!

July 13, 200915 yr I would have been another Canton representative. But, back in 2000, I had an easier time finding a job in Youngstown. :-P  I grew up in Perry, but always identified more with Massillon. I still visit regularly, but never go to Canton. If I were living there, it would be a different story, though. --edit-- Nice pictures. It's always nice to see crowds of people in an Ohio city. :-)
