July 20, 20177 yr Missing Falls Brewery now headed to downtown Akron By Rick Armon Published: July 18, 2017 Missing Falls Brewery really will be missing a falls. The brewery once slated to open in Munroe Falls is shifting gears and will now be located in the giant Canal Place complex in downtown Akron. It also will be a lot bigger than first envisioned. Missing Falls came onto the local scene in late 2015, with plans to open in a small shop at 10 N. Main St. in Munroe Falls. http://www.ohio.com/blogs/the-beer-blog/the-beer-blog-1.273124/missing-falls-brewery-now-headed-to-downtown-akron-1.781145 ------------------------ These guys are really starting off on a pretty big scale - nothing in the story let on about how much brewing experience they have between them. That's a lot of space and equipment for a start-up. It may work out though - since R. Shea is also putting a production brewery at Canal Place, it could be the start of a little brewery district near downtown. It will be interesting to see if, over time, they can get another one down there - or maybe talk an existing out-of-state brewer to expand there, too.

September 7, 20186 yr My wife and I shopped at Earth Fare fairly often before the Highland Square Mustard Seed and the Wallhaven Whole Foods 365 opened. And we'll probably start shopping there again more often if we move out to Copley/Fairlawn/Richfield in the coming years for the school systems (increasingly likely). But the 365 and Acme No. 1 get the overwhelming majority of our grocery dollars, with the HS Mustard Seed a distant third and everything else lower than that, just because they're so close to where we live. Also, the 365 is a sip-and-shop store and has free electric car chargers in the parking lot. Those are both very relevant to my interests.

November 26, 20186 yr Akron incubator hopes to cultivate food entrepreneurship BETH THOMAS HERTZ November 25, 2018 04:00 AM Entrepreneurs who want to start or grow a food business will be able to utilize a certified commercial kitchen in Akron as soon as renovations are complete at a former church on East Market Street that is now owned by The Well Community Development Corp. The 100-year-old building is already being used by The Well for multiple initiatives designed to help bolster the surrounding Middlebury neighborhood, including the Compass Coffee shop. The organization has spent the past six months securing the funding to rehab the building's kitchen to become Akron Food Works, an incubator for food entrepreneurs of all stripes: small catering businesses, food truck operators, bakers, hobbyists who want to sell their goods at a local farmers market and more. It hopes to have the kitchen upgraded, compliant with public health requirements and ready for business in the first quarter of 2019, said Curtis Minter Jr., The Well's operations director. https://www.crainscleveland.com/small-business/akron-incubator-hopes-cultivate-food-entrepreneurship

December 5, 20186 yr Just tried Lock 15 Brewing for the first time yesterday, and I'm impressed with what they've done with the space. The parking lot is not the easiest to get in and out of (especially if you're trying to turn left into it) and it's unfortunately a little more hidden from the road than I think would be ideal (though nothing like Hop Tree up in Hudson, which is set back at the end of a large and sprawling industrial park). But the food was definitely better (and, admittedly, pricier) than I usually expect in a microbrewery. I actually was only there for lunch and therefore can't comment on the beer yet. However, they've done an impressive job with the buildout and the food, especially for what was basically basement/garage space in a small, old factory. Looking forward to going again at a more beer-friendly hour.

I’m not sure hunting for a bar in a massive fairly empty industrial complex near the center of Akron was at the top of things i was doing then especially when the main choices were Kent, the valley, or the flats.

Ha! I didn't kill all of my brain cells at UA apparently. But 1990 Kent students used to hang in Akron and it was really happening. But the scene quickly shifted back with UA and KSU students all going out in Kent. The Valley was seen as for a more upscale, older crowd. There was Liberty Brewing Co. which was kind of awesome. Degenerates (like my friends) stayed in Akron to watch the industrial buildings crumble! p.s. the sheer number of dive bars near U of Akron back then was pretty incredible.

I started going to Thursdays when I was 18 for "Alternative Night" dancing and then started drinking there when I turned 21 in the early 90's and I try to visit every time I'm back. I still love it and it's pretty much the last bar standing.

Yup. inside a red-brick industrial building that was home to Benny's Rubber City Sports Bar & Grille in the early 1990s and Satchmo's before that https://www.beaconjournal.com/news/20190502/graffiti-mystery-in-akron-whos-behind-beer
October 24, 20195 yr One more for C. Falls: Asterisk Coffee Bar to celebrate grand opening in Cuyahoga Falls this week Posted Oct 23, 6:30 AM By Anne Nickoloff, cleveland.com CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio -- Asterisk Coffee Bar is a new enterprise cooked up by the creators of Akron Coffee Roasters. The new Cuyahoga Falls cafe celebrates its grand opening this Thursday, after having been softly opened for a couple of months. Asterisk, located at 2101 Front Street, is just a 10-minute drive away from Akron Coffee Roasters, located at 30 North High Street in Akron. But because it’s technically located outside of Akron, it had to adopt a new name, said owner Albert Macso, a co-owner of the two cafes. https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2019/10/asterisk-coffee-bar-to-celebrate-grand-opening-in-cuyahoga-falls-this-week.html

I might go back today and see if they have better wifi. Went a few times when they first opened and it was almost impossible to get any work done.
