Local Flavor: Noisy Oyster Pub makes me as happy as a clam

Phil Masturzo

Akron Beacon Journal

One of my most trusted food informants told me to check out the Noisy Oyster Pub. His review came with high praise.

So that’s where I headed on a recent Monday evening, which happened to be burger night at the cozy little pub at the bottom of North Portage Path in Akron’s Merriman Valley.

The Enchanted Café in Barberton leaves us spellbound | Local Flavor

Mark J. Price

The Enchanted Café truly has magical powers.

If a restaurant can make my wife, Susie, like tomatoes, then some form of culinary wizardry must be involved.

We recently had a marvelous meal at the family-owned Barberton restaurant at 559 Norton Ave. Tucked behind a tire shop and a defunct convenience store, the nearly hidden diner is across Barber Road from Barberton High School. It’s definitely worth finding.

Cuyahoga Falls ponders avenues for relaxation with downtown DORA zone

April Helms

Akron Beacon Journal

Akron, Barberton and Hudson already have created DORAs.

If passed, the DORA would involve the businesses between Front and Second streets.

In a DORA, customers can drink alcoholic beverages outside the establishments serving them, as long as the drinks are in specially marked cups.

Cuyahoga Falls could join other local cities in easing the way for alcoholic beverages to be consumed beyond the establishments serving them through the establishment of a Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area.

A DORA proposal led by the Downtown Cuyahoga Falls Partnership could gets its first hearing before City Council in late April.

The downtown property at the corner of West Exchange and South Main Street, which hasn't functioned as a restaurant since November 2020, will reopen as DeJuan's in late July, new restaurant owner De'Juan Kelker II said Wednesday.

Glad to see that space used again. I cringed at the way the review was written as if the author had never been in a nicely designed restaurant before.  I find a lot of local, smaller-medium size town restaurant reviews to be kind of provincial and sounding like they were written by grandmas who never get out.
