Downtown Canton

These photos are from two trips that I made out to Canton.  The second trip was a blessing.  I got a personal tour from a friend from Miami.  We got to see the entire city.  I ended up showing my friends some new areas in the city (the areas where his suburban parents told him never to visit).

Hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the tour. I was in Canton in 2007 and was pleased with how clean it was, even though there wasn't much going on for a Friday afternoon. The plaza looks good, and I'm glad to see that they're making progress.

It's got some nice buildings.

Some really nice stuff there! Never been to Canton; thanks for the tour!

Thanks, Canton is near the top of my list of places I still need to go in Ohio.

The best thing about Canton is Hegy's candy store on Cleveland Avenue.  I went there as a kid and still order my Christmas gifts from them without fail every year.  Canton was a great place to grow up in; just the right size and close enough to a big city to get many of the benefits. We moved to Pennsylvania when I was about 12, about 40 years ago. It seems to have peaked in the late 60s, then went down hill fast.  Glad to see that so much has been cleaned up and renovated.

Haven't been back in many years, but would like to see the old neighborhood, my old school, and just look around.

Thanks Rob!  And you'd think that after all these years, I'd be able to spell the name right.  I keep spelling it as though it were a Hungarian word.  Their offshoot is Cerreta's chocolates in Scottsdale AZ.  Not that I am addicted to chocolate or anything.....

downtown canton is just so neat and tidy, but still interesting. ya gotta love it. we had family friends there and i remember it even impressed me visiting as a little kid.

Yea Hegy's was good!

I don't think the Hotel Onesto project is just for seniors:

You are correct, they are supposed to be Cantn's downtown Luxury apartments.  There was a new senior apartment building built downtown this year, wilson point.  It is actually very nice and was designed to blend in with some of the older stuff.

A few other things in the works

- a Downtown Gym

- The huge former Hercules factory into a convention center

- Cadillac garage converted to Photo studio

- Newer arts district with live/work artist apartments and 6th street

I'll have to shoot some more photos and post them up

^ yeah, i remember when i was there a sign said 'luxury apts.'

that's a great project, i hope it all works out as planned.

definately do post some more pics when you can!
