Posted July 26, 200915 yr The underlings planned a field trip and I was forced to tag along. I didn't know where we were going, I was just told to keep the sarcasm to a minimum. :| :| We start our trip at 125/Lenox. We exit at South Ferry. The new station is very nice and now connects with the N/R/W line We walk out and head toward I immediately say, "I am not going to Staten Island. No...just No!!" Then we turn to the left and I'm relieved to see we are heading to the Battery Maritime Building [ www.batterymaritimebuilding.com ] Whew! What a relief! For some reason the boat we were supposed to be on left with a people waiting to gain entry, so we were escorted to a different slip on the inside of the building. It was very cool to see the ramps for cars and above the ramps for people. u Our vessel approachith. It's not a "Princess" ship or the Queen Elizabeth II, but it will do. :-P The view over to Brooklyn Heights. You can see the double decker BQE On the ride over, we get a great view of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges Lower Manhattan. I wasn't able to take another picture because we arrived at GI. It's no more than a 5 minute ride. We disembark and two seconds later the ferry is off for another group Looking over to Jersey City. There was this fog around New Jersey, but not New York. Strange, very strange. This island is closed after 5 PM, so you have to stay in designated areas, but I "influenced" one of the commanders to let us around to the western side of the island. Here is castle Williams Sherm, I tried to get some interior shots. I failed miserably, since we couldn't gain access to the top. This is the end of the "historic district". On the other side of the island they are building a "harbor/maritime" high school. another shot of Manhattan The "beach". So we're back on the Big Island Shots around Battery Park, Wagner Park and World Finanical Center. I don't know how to shoot photos at night so sorry for the quality. The Irish Hunger Memorial Looking downtown, at the passover from the former WTC to the WFC Back into the subway for our express ride uptown Oh Gawd, I think I just overheard the kids say, "we're going to Jersey." Kill me, kill me now! :-o :|
