January 4, 201015 yr Case Ph.D. student here (and former Case undergrad). In my experience, not many students live on that side of campus. Many, many more students live in Little Italy, Coventry, and Cedar/Fairmount as KJP mentioned if they live off campus :).
January 27, 201015 yr Yes, all of Shaker Square is apart of the Shaker Heights School district. Why is this the case? Also, are there are other cases of this where parts of the city are not served by CMSD, rather by a suburban district?
January 27, 201015 yr Yes, all of Shaker Square is apart of the Shaker Heights School district. Why is this the case? Also, are there are other cases of this where parts of the city are not served by CMSD, rather by a suburban district? I don't want to steal MTS's thunder, but I believe that a deal was struck to prevent that neighborhood from breaking off from Cleveland and being annexed into Shaker Hts. The deal was that the Shaker Sqaure neighborhood would remain in Cleveland, but fall within the Shaker Heights School District. School districting maps not mirroring municipal boundaries is not that uncommon... in NEO at least. For example, parts of East Cleveland fall within the Cleveland Hts school district and parts of Cleveland Hts (Forrest Hills) fall withing the East Cleveland school district.

January 28, 201015 yr bukeye1--thanks for that link--an interesting read. School districting maps not mirroring municipal boundaries is not that uncommon... in NEO at least. For example' date=' parts of East Cleveland fall within the Cleveland Hts school district and parts of Cleveland Hts (Forrest Hills) fall withing the East Cleveland school district.[/quote'] I do realize that municipalities and school districts are different animals, so they need not necessarily overlap 100% and that smaller cities sometimes bind together to form a district. As well, I think Bratenahl is served by the City schools. But besides the Shaker Square example, are there others where certain streets/parts of the city are served by a suburban district? Are there any maps of school districts in Cuyahoga County that may show this? (I looked, but couldn't find any.)

February 8, 201015 yr lopsidedfrock--thanks--a map is exactly what I was looking for. But that map is pretty bad! The benefit of using colors is so one can easily see the boundaries of a place. Whoever made that map uses distinctly different colors for outlying areas--for example, Mayfield and South Euclid, but the same colors for the city of Cleveland and communities that border it--e.g., Lakewood and Fairview. Furthermore, the map shows Shaker Square belonging to Cle schools, not Shaker.... the map also has some curious place names, like "Big Italy", which hasn't existed since the 50's or early 60's when the Interstate highway system took it down.
