West Village is a historic district located on Detroit's near east side.  It was named because it is west of Indian Village (one of Detroit's must see neighborhoods, imo).

Rough, but awesome.

Nice.  Lots of housing with good bones.  That house with the ivy...wow.  they've got an invent on their hands.

Nice looking neighborhood, but suffers from a little bit from that Detroit neglect.

Just came back from three days in Detroit. I don't remember seeing this on the trip, but it looks relatively stable.

Residential is looking like it's mostly in good shape and of very good quality, but then you have a perfectly good block of brick commercial buildings full of...boards. Oh well, what can you say? I guess they prefer to put their money into sprawling generic suburbs. How people don't see what they could have here if they wanted it is beyond me.

Well done Zach!

^For real.  I love the architectural variety.  Painful to see it in such decay.  Thanks for posting those.

What is going on with Detroit!?!  EVERY photo thread I see has beautiful buildings, great vistas, stately trees, cozy side streets, and an insane amount of BLIGHT!!!  I don't understand why or how America can throw such an amazing city into the garbage.  Please keep the threads coming, Zach.  They are inspiring.

Nice pictures, looks like it was a decent place.

This is what happens to any city when their economy implodes. It is a damn shame, Detroit should be one of our nation's jewels, up there with NY and Chicago....

Most of us here in Michigan just accept it.  When the economy tanks and neighborhood crime escalates, people leave.  Whatever direction Detroit's economy steers toward will decide whether the buildings above will be saved or demolished.
