August 3, 200915 yr I dig the arcade. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
August 3, 200915 yr The Parthenon is not even made of stone. It is concrete. One of the weirdest sites that I've come across. Maybe they'll build a stonehenge next to it some day.
August 3, 200915 yr I was in Nashville last October for the first time and loved - it is a great city, especially the individual neighborhoods. I stayed with a friend who lives in East Nashville - it is a great city with funky shops, great restaurants and cafes, and some great bars. The Parthenon was quite a surprise as well - the grounds it sits on were impeccable.
August 3, 200915 yr Nashville's a city I probably shouldn't like...a bit too glitzy, a bit too suburban, a little too country (and not enough rock and Roll- ha ha), and not too old.... But for some reason, i like it. Like Strawberry Pretzel Salad.
August 3, 200915 yr i was just there. my company submitted a propsal for a centennial park re-design. but yes, the parthenon is big and tacky, imo. Parts of the park are quite nice though. Overall, the city was very underwhelming outside of downtown. Downtown itself surpirsed me (not the touristy area), with narrow streets and great alleys, etc.

August 4, 200915 yr The downtown is cool...narrow streets, hills, and that arcade, which isnt climate controlled...its like the Dayton one used to be...And they still have that row of old commercial buidlings along the Cumberland River, too.
August 4, 200915 yr I like it. Some of the buildings are blah and some of the streets are too wide, but some of the buildings are striking. Overall I'd give it two thumbs up.
August 8, 200915 yr Wow, there are some rather large odd buildings there. I hate to say it, but this thread kind of hurt my eyes. I think I need to visit there to actually appreciate how this city is put together. My impression right now is that it seems like what Disney would build if they threw a city together. Thank you for the thread. I had no clue what Nashville looked like.
August 8, 200915 yr There basically wasn't anything good built in Nashville between 1930 and 2005. I'll repeat: 1950-2005 was absolutely horrible to Nashville. The new Pinnacle office building isn't very tall, about 20 floors, and it's a rip-off of a few like it in Atlanta and elsewhere, but it's the best skyscraper in Nashville. Also, the Schimerhorn(sp?) symphony hall is a great neo-classic building finished around 05 or 06. Those two are next to each other, and SE of Broadway in a former sea of parking lots. They're really solid anchors to what's going to happen next in that area. Up until now Broadway was both the center and the edge of downtown Nashville, which sounds odd but makes sense if you go there. Also, Broadway in Nashville is probably the only example I know of of a ridiculously wide street that is actually pedestrian-friendly and has a sense of nieghborhood.
