My schools game field was so bad we either played at one of the elementary schools or on the Pop Warner football field.

Lower maintenance, tougher, and can be used by more teams with no end-of-season bare spots on the field are some of the justifications given.

Good point, wonder if the overall cost is cheaper in the end when you factor in replanting grass, watering, mowing and any other maintenance.

My high school has turf now and they started taking donations for the project when I was a Sophomore and finally built the thing after I graduated college.

September 14, 20222 yr Upper Arlington expects to break ground on community center in spring "Plans now are in place for the exterior design of the Upper Arlington Community Center, as the construction team and city officials work to dial in costs and expect to break ground for the facility in the spring. When the city's first community center starts to go up at the Kingsdale Shopping Center next year, it will be five stories with a terracotta, or fire-clay brick exterior, rather than a "glass curtain wall" design that also had been considered. Ground should be broken on the 144,000-square-foot building in April, and officials said they're hopeful the community center open to the public in the first quarter of 2025. "We're looking at being substantially done with construction right around Christmas of 2024, which means we'll open, probably, in February or March (2025)," City Manager Steve Schoeny said Sept. 6." https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/communities/upper-arlington/2022/09/14/upper-arlington-offers-timeline-expectations-for-community-center/68034916007/

This community center is only going to make the area more vibrant. Props to UA for moving forward with multiple fairly large scale more urban/dense developments. September 14, 20222 yr After multiple revisions, this project finally got approval. And you can get a unit for a steal! Scioto Villas: $1M condos coming to corner of Fishinger, Fairlington despite pushback “Despite opposition from neighbors, a developer can move forward with plans to build condominiums with sales prices approaching $1 million at the corner of Fairlington Drive and Fishinger Road. By fall 2023, Moment Development founder Ohm Patel expects to break ground on 15, two-story condos ranging in size from 2,150 square feet to 2,835 square feet on 1.92 acres at the northeast corner of Fairlington and Fishinger. The development, formerly known as Fairlington Heights and now being called Scioto Villas, will feature 33-foot-tall condo units. They will be outfitted with two-vehicle attached garages, will have private landscaping services and carry a proposed average sales price of $975,000 per unit that Patel said will fill a need for empty-nesters in the community. Three single-family homes at 2750, 2770 and 2790 Fishinger Road will be demolished to make way for the project.“ https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/communities/upper-arlington/2022/09/13/ohm-patel-scioto-villas-1m-condos-coming-to-corner-of-fishinger-fairlington-in-upper-arlington/

"As it's currently planned, the Scioto Villas project is too dense. It's going to be really too close to the road, which will look awful. It doesn't match anything in the area. It's still a little too high, and when you look at the price it's totally unaffordable." The ones about affordability really strike me as disingenuous. Like, none of the proposals would have been affordable for most, but it’s because of the opposition that the price point got pushed up even more. Being opposed to density is never going to bring prices down.

The view on Lane is changing rapidly! If you turn west on Lane from High, right away you can see Arlington Gateway in the distance. Once you closer to The Schott, you can also begin to see some of the buildings rising at Lane & Kenny.

I take that route multiple times a week to go to Griggs and it's the reason I keep choosing that route even though the students are back and it's way more congested over there. I just love seeing all those new buildings poking up above the trees before you even cross under 315.

Yeah, when they force the developer to cut units the price of the remaining ones will go up. They still would have been expensive, but if they would have had the original number of units, okayed, the price may have been a little less. the density argument is dumb also, they units have 2 car garages and will not add any problems with parking, usually the biggest cry of density. They just don’t want anything to change and will cry about anything that comes.

We cannot allow this development to happen… Now now...as Dublin has already defined it, "transients' are renters(even if they are paying several thousand a month or more in rent). These are "for sale" so Arlington is "safe" from the dangerous transient renters lol. * the name change-they removed something with the word fair(middling)in it to now have "villas" as if these were overlooking the Ligurian Sea or something.
September 15, 20222 yr What did the developer change to get it approved? Was it the way they were facing?

It also sucks because the original designs are way way better. The new ones are not great, and it will be interesting to see how they sell.

October 28, 20222 yr Anybody know what the MCL here got hit by? I couldn't find anything. I suspect an electric car because some weird chemical reaction happened to the carpet at the point of impact.
November 2, 20222 yr Just a little observation from being on the road yesterday, but you can actually see the Arlington Gateway project from around the intersection of High and Lane on campus. Don't know how I never noticed it before as I drive down that road often, but it's pretty prominent when looking west down Lane.
November 24, 20222 yr BTW, you can CLEARLY see the Arlington Gateway from 315 near Grandview Yards. Saw it tonight on my way to CM Chicken. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
