Posted August 12, 200915 yr What was the reason for the outage? DanB, you need to up your Marketing & Advertising, obviously we need more donations!!!
August 12, 200915 yr Nice to see UO back up... I was forced to actually get some work done yesterday instead of coming here.
August 12, 200915 yr Our site was down for about 24 hours due to a DOS attack. The same type of attack that hit alot of the larger sites recently. Our hosting provider was a huge help in getting things back online, so thanks to them.
August 12, 200915 yr Was the attack aimed specifically at UO, or some other site that happened to be hosted on the same server? Probably no way to know for sure, I guess.
August 12, 200915 yr Was the attack aimed specifically at UO, or some other site that happened to be hosted on the same server? Probably no way to know for sure, I guess. Our site is hosted on a VDS, which means we are allocated a specific amount of processing power, memory, etc. So if another site/server was affected, it would not take down other sites.
August 12, 200915 yr As I posted on the Facebook group, I was starting to get the withdrawl jitters by last night.
August 12, 200915 yr I was actually beginning to enjoy a brief moment of sobriety, but I guess THAT'S out the window now! :drunk: clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram

That's not true. Slamming the hard drive slams other sites. I can tell you that yesterday... we were down for most of the afternoon, and we also were on the cloud.
August 13, 200915 yr Now that it's back up, UO is being REALLY slow for me. Is this happening to anyone else?
August 14, 200915 yr It seems to be better now. Once we know the attacks have stopped, we can stop the DOS program which is probably causing the slow down.

August 14, 200915 yr Yeah the slowness is sporadic. Sometimes it's fine. Like earlier today around 2ish. But sometimes it's very slow. I know you're working on it, I just wanted to let you know.
August 14, 200915 yr Still running slow every time I've checked since yesterday morning...... I haven't had the patience to read or post besides this thread :(.
August 14, 200915 yr We are still being DOS attacked and that is why things are still slow. its better than being completely down. Who knows when it will be over though.
