Xavier University's move-in day 2009

On Monday, August 24, Xavier University will admit a record class of freshmen approximately 1,200 large into the classrooms. An elongated move-in schedule that stretched from Thursday morning into Friday evening. The admission is 40 percent larger than last year's class of 860 students, and 7,152 submitted applications to Xavier. For the fall, Xavier's total student population is 6,355.

Around 90 percent of the freshmen are living on campus in residence halls along Victory Parkway and Herald Avenue corridors.

The 200-strong Xavier Move Crew, dressed in bright green t-shirts, assisted students by unloading the cars and carrying the new students' belongings up to their respective rooms. Here are several photographs from Xavier's move-in day 2009.

The Xavier Move Crew helped move in items from the vehicle to the dormitory. They could unload a car in a matter of a minute.

Wow, this takes me back.  Move crew, Manresa......

Great set Sherman.

Nice....I wish I were just starting my undergrad.

REK, you're right, it almost brought back memories for me as well.

Then I remembered, those god awful years have been purged from my memory.

That's a lot of happy white folks!

These are excellent photos, the quality is incredible.

Ah, takes me back 6 years.

My move in day was less than spectacular.

I like Xavier more and more these days.

Me, too!  Manresa was a lot of fun.

Wow, 1200 incoming freshman!  My freshman class had a little over 800.

I still did all the welcome week stuff for freshman even as a senior.  How could I pass up all the free food.  The move-in was pretty easy for me.  You'd pull up and 5 students would have all your stuff moved up in 2 trips.  If you needed help with assembly, they'd provide it.  If you decided you wanted a loft for your room, they'd build it.  It was nice because it gave time with the fam to wander around campus instead of worrying about getting everything set up throughout the day.

Ah the early fall, when there are the most hot chicks on any campus. I don't know what happens to make a lot of the hot chicks disappear later in the year. I think they hole up in their dorm rooms eating ice cream and chocolate while watching Disney movies, cut off all their hair and turn into fat girls.

^LOL

:D :D :D

I miss college already, but I have to disagree...Spring Quarter is always the best for those on the quarter system.  All the girls are just itching to wear their new spring/summer clothes and any sight of sunshine will bring them out in full force.

Love the Harvey Milk sign btw.

These young freshmen have yet to be introduced to the "Husky Musky" aka the soft serve machine in the Caf.....

exactly!

The best thing about the students being back is that the all-you-can-eat smorgasbord with ice cream is BACK OPEN behind my building. I can't wait to go there tomorrow and slop down all that.

Hold up, what about the fat sloppy unkept and unclean boys??

I must be getting too superficial.. I was about to comment on proof of the chunky/ugly girls Xavier is famous for...

Shhh, don't bother them... they've got to get their WoW character to level 80 so that they can go on raids.

Lawd!  This is why I don't miss college at all!  Probably the most miserable time in my life.

:whip:

Wait, what? They walk by my building daily, skipping merrily on their way to class. Many of them are really hot. Catholic school girls. Yes.

There is a long tradition of these t-shirts every year for the crosstown shootout.

Although the girl in front of the electric mail vehicle is definitely an exception.  Sherman, you focused on the wrong subject in that photo buddy.

Can't see the picture but I'm sure it's the 'Xavier Girls are Ugly' shirt.

Stay classy Clifton.

Leave some room for the Holy Ghost!

^ too funny!

Move-in day must be a lot easier these days with the newer, smaller technology the kids own.  LCD monitors and iPods make the load a little lighter.  Unlike my cathode ray tube TV and computer monitor, IBM 486, CDs, cassette tapes, etc.

"Freshmen girls: Get them while they're skinny!" as I learned.

Everything I needed as a freshman when I moved into my dorm at Purdue was in two suitcases, plus a clock radio. It all fit nicely into the trunk of my Dad's black '57 Mercury Monterey.  I think move-in took all of ten minutes, and then we went to lunch and then I was on my own.

After a couple of weeks I decided I wanted my Raleigh Sports 3-speed, so on a later visit Mom and Dad brought it. With the front wheel removed, it fit into the Mercury's trunk, too.

I was behind a '54 Cadillac Coupe de Ville today and couldn't stop staring at its ENORMOUS trunk!

Here is a gallery.

My aunt had a Caddy, 1972 or thereabouts, and I could put my bike in the trunk of that without taking anything off it. Heck, I probably could have crawled in there with it.

A lot of people today justify SUV purchases because they own a bicycle.
