Pictures taken 8-22-2009

This is where I lived with my mom, dad and sister from 1966 until I graduated from high school and got married in 1971. My husband and I moved back to Dayton (after living in another part of Dayton & then Virginia, Florida & New Jersey). We moved back in 1986 and moved into a house next door to my parents. Both houses are gone now. I think they were torn down about 4-6 years ago and replaced by senior housing.

Mostly there is a street running right through where the house stood and the new houses are what used to be the projects which I think were called "Edgewood Court"

As with the other post I made about my other old neighborhood- I wish I had taken more pictures, so I must plan another trip and do that.

I think it's very sad what became of Audubon Park. There were a lot of very nice homes in through there. There still are but most are towards the end. Why I didn't take pictures of them I do not know.

Anyway-our house was next to the reddish colored house. The front of the house was across from Audubon Park and the back faced "the projects".

Then there was another house (which we -my husband, kids & I) lived in that was next to my childhood home and then an alleyway.

I see that the nursing home is still in business at the corner of Superior and Meredith.

I sure wish I had a picture for comparison. I might be able to dig one up and do another post later.

Thanks!

Audubon Park is a mess.  I drove by there the other day and there's about a summers-worth of overgrown grass and vegitation on some of the properties, which is quite visible if you look down the court.

Yeah-I know. It's pretty sad indeed. We were talking with a man who lives over there and he said several of the houses were on the list to be torn down.

I remember when we lived over there there was a house in Audubon that was abandoned (now there are several) but some kids got in and managed to set it on fire. I forget the exact year - I think it may have been 1990 but I could be wrong. I just remember my husband coming home and seeing all of the fire trucks, etc. and thinking it was our place at first.

Ah- never a dull moment when we lived over there! But didn't feel too safe either.

What bothers me about that street is that its a lot like the pedestrian streets...they are called "courts"...in Louisville.  In Louisville these are desirable places to live, usually kept up even if the neighborhood isn't so hot.  So it's disturbing to see one in this shape.
