Posted November 11, 200519 yr This is a little late... When my wife and I attended this past Cincinnati Downtown Living Tour we met a couple on the tour that informed us that they had purchased the Lyric Piano Bldg. to rehab into condos. The building is across the street from Landor Co. on Race St.. This is a much needed development and in my opinion the most unattractive street in the CBD. Great News!!!
November 11, 200519 yr This building has been vacant since Burger King left the first floor over 10 years ago. It is a neat little building with three sides open to a public street or alley, thus the oportunity for lots of windows. Unfortunately, the windows will recieve little direct sunlight. I measured this building a few years ago and did proposal drawings for office space. The recessed balcony will make an awesome terrace for the owner's condo. This block has potential, glad to see someone is acting on it!
November 11, 200519 yr I have loved this building since I first noticed it in 1990. It probably has the best facade of any small building in downtown or OTR. Glad to see it is getting some new life.
November 11, 200519 yr My friends and I did our under age drinking at the "Le Bistro" bar in the Clarion hotel (now the Millenium). We usually parked in the Federated garage and cut through that alley. I was pretty sure everyone wanted to know this. :drunk:
November 11, 200519 yr Yes this is very cool...the building kind of reminds me of the building that was rehabbed for Jean Roberts at Pigall's. sorry can't seem to find a pic to reference to...
November 11, 200519 yr Wonderful! That may be one of the suckiest stretches in the entire CBD. This is definitely good news.
November 12, 200519 yr Wonderful! That may be one of the suckiest stretches in the entire CBD. This is definitely good news. Yeah, the evil side of me wants all of those "urban" stores to go out of business. ;)
November 12, 200519 yr I agree, the front of this building has some of the best character to be on a building.
February 16, 200619 yr I haven't seen any action on this building, has anyone seen or heard anything about this?
February 14, 200718 yr Saw this, this morning on Cincinnati Blog: ... "Wednesday, February 14, 2007 More Downtown Development A tip from reader Richard gives word about new Race Street Renovation in a building I've long loved and wished someone would bring back to life: The beautiful Lyric Piano Building near the corner of 7th and Race is currently undergoing renovations. In the past, the ground level of this building served as a Hardees restaurant (and Burger Chef) and there was speculation a number of years ago that the former owners of The Temple Restaurant were planning a new restaurant at that location. But, I spoke with a lady who works at one of the jewelry stores next door and she said that a very nice couple has purchased the building with plans to use a portion of the structure as a new architectural office and the remaining square-footage as a private residence. It will be great to see this handsome building, which is a favorite of architecture lovers throughout the area, returned to its former glory. Here's a link with information about the structure, crowned a "blight of the week" by CityBeat in 2002. Race Street has for a long time needed more renovation. I hope this is just a start with Sully's going in just up the street." http://cincinnati.blogspot.com/
February 14, 200718 yr That facade it really interesting, it is almost like it is framed with the brick. I can't think of any buildings quite like it. Glad to see something happening with it!
