Posted August 25, 200915 yr Hi everybody, my name is Tobi and I'm coming to Cincinnati in May 2010 for three months to carry out field studies for my PhD study about city centers in Germany and the US. I'm trying to get in contact with the university in Cincinnati for a research visit. Since the university and downtown will be the areas of my highest interests, I'm searching for a nice and central neighborhood to live. Another issue I'm thinking about is, wether it is necessary or not to have a car in Cincinnati? Is there an opportunity for using some kind of car-sharing? How is the public transportation system working? Quiet a bunch of questions ... :? Looking forward to your answers Tobi
August 25, 200915 yr The Planning Department in the College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning and the History Department in the College of Arts and Sciences both have faculty that could be of help to you. If you really are focusing on the core - the university district and downtown - you can do just fine without a car. The bus system serves that area very well. I don't think Cincy has gotten on the car sharing bandwagon yet. Others may be of better help for short term housing, though the Univ. of Cinci has some short-term housing that they the rent to students so you may be able to get into that. www.uc.edu

October 12, 200915 yr Hi everyone, thank you for your answers. I´m looking for a ready-furnished room or appartment for 300-400 $ in walking distance to the university.
October 14, 200915 yr Try Uptown Rentals. They have some really nice affordable units. http://www.uptownrents.com/
February 16, 201015 yr Hi everyone, I´m still looking for a furnished room. I think it is a little bit tricky to find a place because I can only stay for three month. Does anyone have a new good hint for me.
February 16, 201015 yr Maybe check Craigslist.com and see if anyone is looking for a short-term roommate?

February 25, 201015 yr Hi Tobi, I'm a UC student in the School of Planning and can hopefully offer you some helpful advice. Are you studying city planning/urban planning or architecture or something else? Were you able to get in touch with any professors from The University of Cincinnati? As for renting a furnished room - try www.cincinnati.craigslist.org and look at "sublets/temporary" I have found two furnished apartments that way. With a $300 - $400 a month budget, you can definitely find a furnished room in an apartment or house with roommates. The only problem is that The University of Cincinnati ends the school year mid-June. Most students have to sign year long leases, but many students leave Cincinnati for summer break and try to rent their apartments while they are away. So it is easy to find a furnished room for June through September, but finding a room for May, June & July might be more difficult. You could also try posting an ad on craigslist in the "housing wanted" section. On Craigslist, anything that is listed as "Clifton" would be walking distance to the university, and close to the bus routes. The transportation system here in Cincinnati is http://www.sorta.com/ You can buy a monthly pass, or pay per ride. Since you are interested in city centers, you can see anything of interest without a car. The area where the University of Cincinnati is located is about 2 miles distance from downtown and many busses can take you from downtown to the university area. I hope this helps!
