August 13, 20186 yr I think most of it has gone into the Highland Square thread or the general Akron development thread. Much I hate to say it because I basically live in Wallhaven (or at least that's the closest neighborhood with a recognizable name), there isn't exactly a constant stream of Wallhaven development news.
August 13, 20186 yr Isn't there a thread for Wallhaven development? If not, there should be. Go ahead and start one. This is the second Wallhaven development in a decade. Haha
August 13, 20186 yr As far as LBJ re-investing back in Akron. I think he'll pick and choose where he invests. He's built playground basketball courts, expanded STVM gym, and money for housing projects. I would expect things along the line of that. Probably donating more to STVM, perhaps a youth center in Elizabeth Valley, perhaps helping out with the arena in downtown Akron. Also just noticed this from 2014. Considering the new I Promise school, I think it's safe to say that he went a little bit bigger than that ... even as just moved his playing career to LA for his twilight NBA years (almost certainly more for Hollywood opportunities than basketball ones).

May 11, 20214 yr This is a new infill house in Highland Square on Casterton Ave. First infill I've seen in a long time. I believe this was actually a lot split from the adjacent property.

September 1, 20222 yr https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/local-news/akron-canton-news/old-temple-israel-in-akron-transforming-into-a-large-center-for-arts Looks very interesting. I always thought Highland square lacked a community arts center. This space will definitely come in handy for events like the film festival and in general to keep visitors in the neighborhood Longer. Also, this form has been dormant for too long, if anyone has any more insight with any additional protects, please share!

September 7, 20222 yr 'Connecting the community': Akron's Temple Israel getting new life as arts-based center Jim Mackinnon Akron Beacon Journal Temple Israel, a mainstay of Akron's Highland Square neighborhood since 1911, is being reenvisioned and redeveloped as a community arts center. Tony Troppe, whose downtown Akron projects include the Blu-Tique Hotel, Blu Jazz+, The Trailhead and more, purchased the Merriman Road property more than a year ago. October 4, 20231 yr Creativity extends outside HUG with new earthen labyrinth at Highland Square arts center Kerry Clawson Akron Beacon Journal Akron residents are invited to visit and walk through a recently completed labyrinth outside the new Highland Square Universal Gathering Space (HUG), designed by longtime Akron artist Chuck Ayers. The labyrinth is a nod to the new HUG creative space redeveloped from the historic Temple Israel — a place of peace. HUG owner Tony Troppe has run into opposition from some neighbors on Weber Avenue, behind the former temple. Neighbors raised concerns about light, noise levels during events and a need for a fence for privacy and noise reduction. Troppe said he was addressing neighbors' concerns. https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/entertainment/arts/2023/09/30/new-labyrinth-outside-hug-arts-center-highland-square-akron/70935365007/?utm_source=nabj-DailyBriefing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=daily-briefing&utm_term=Content List - Stacking - optimized&utm_content=OHIO-AKRON-NLETTER65
