Funny how this is reported with more depth by a national outlet than any of our local media.

Yeah, agreed. We barely have any local media.

@KJP-- Just an idea here. If you REALLY want to help Cleveland, you'll extend your work to cover politics as well. Very messy, I know, but just think how much better of a place this could be that would attract even more investment if all the crap of local politicians gets exposed early on and frequently before they become entrenched and 'business as usual'.

I absolutely HATE politics. I did it once a couple decades ago and I'm way to sensitive and hope-driven to do it again. If I had to cover politics again in any city, state or country, mind you, I would put a bullet in my head in a few years because I would lose all hope in humanity. I share news about politics in the current events section because it makes me feel like I'm doing "something." There are a few shining stars in politics, but America's political system in general is corrupt and poisoned by too much money and too many nutjob extremists. Most politicians are self-serving at best and scumbags at worst. A few others are so wretched they would sell their children into slavery to guarantee re-election. It doesn't matter where you are, the grass is not greener in another city's City Hall. So if you want to see me dead, return me to a political beat. Otherwise, please don't suggest it again.

Understood--and won't raise it again!

Frank to announce something tonight:

"Dear Residents,

Please join me for a special Town Hall meeting on Thursday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. During the event, I will make an important announcement and I will also take questions from residents listening by phone and watching online. Participants can register to receive a phone call and be connected directly to the event at www.clevelandohio.gov/teletownhall. This is an event you won’t want to miss!

Those who are unable to participate by phone but would like to listen during or after the event can tune in on the City of Cleveland’s Facebook page where the call will be livestreamed. I hope to see you there.

Thank you,

Frank G. Jackson, Mayor
City of Cleveland"

Jackson announced he will not seek a 5th term.

Frank Q. Jackson killed.

Sad for the Jackson family?  Yes

Surprising news?  Nope, not in the least.  The mayor's grandson had a well-documented history of being in and around trouble.  It didn't help that there was a lot of enabling going around.

Will there be "pressure" from the top in getting this solved?  Big time.  Almost certain that this killing will be solved quickly while many homicides that have important relations won't.

Ironic that for a mayor who has seen such a drastic increase of violent crimes during his last two terms in office with a homicide rate much higher than most major cities in this country has it land so close to home.  Perhaps if the mayor felt that the contraction in size of Cleveland's police department needed to be addressed would have made the city a safer place.  Now the Jackson family will rely on the very same department that has been handcuffed in what it can do, demonized, severely over-worked, significantly under-sized and unsupported from the top will be called upon the solving of this killing.

if you go back & read this thread from 2+ years ago, all the violence that was surrounding the Mayor's grandson....  its sad that nobody was able to intervene, get him on a better path.  He's gone now, and it puts an even worse ending to the final chapter of Frank Jackson's time as mayor

The tragedy on this whole sad chapter is how the mayor had the gang element at his own house.  Two years ago, there was a photo of known gang member IN MAYOR'S DRIVEWAY with a big "fan" of money (several hundred dollars), an automatic gun sticking out of his pocket with an extended ammo clip in view and a Cleveland Police Department patrol car IN THE BACKGROUND.

What is really sad is the grandson isn't the only member of the mayor's family that is running on the wrong side of the law.

It is very sad that he chose the wrong path.  I assume he had no parents.  Anyone know what happened to them?

Supposedly, at least his father is still around.  In the cleveland.com story, his father showed up at the scene.  What is really sad that one of the mayor's great-grandsons has already had legal issues.  Not certain, but may have heard of other family members having issues too.  Sounds like there are parents, but not parenting in that family.

More than one great grandson, if the stories I have heard are correct.  And one of them makes Frank Q. look like an angel.

What I've heard is that FQJ was more or less a hanger on who was accepted because of who he was.   Bad in his own right to be sure, but no full fledged banger (as one of the great grandsons allegedly is).   The guy they busted for torching the car, on the other hand, is precisely that.   My guess is he killed Parra, and now that he's been tied to the car torching FQJ could help him get the needle for the first degree murder.  So he or his crew did what they did.

This is all very much like watching a season of the Wire. Except real.

The family has so many problems, but the mayor did have time to visit his grandson at that temporary dirt bike track that was set up in the Muny Lot a few years ago.  Guess that was important.

Mayor Frank G Jackson's Portrait Unveiling Ceremony

This is cringeworthy for many reasons.   It's a 52 minute video.  The first 25 minutes is waiting for the program to start (which is uncomfortably symbolic of the Jacknife administration).   Skip ahead to 41 minutes for the dreadful reveal.

This is anti-Bibb Twitter in a nutshell, there are many things I'd consider Frank, pragmatic is not one of them.

$19 million in VC funding? Surely that's a misprint.
