June 9, 200817 yr   I would say so, but does K&D even own the property yet?  I don't' believe so. In this environment it is very difficult for K&D to get a loan of this scope. It becomes more possible with true contracts in hand. If K&D can get get leases signed (not just LOI's) with the Hotel and at least 60% of the office tenants - then it is possible to get a Bank loan to purchase and begin construction on the site.  I believe the deal between the county and K&D is all contingent on getting financing. If K&D can't get financing - your guess is as good as mine on what will happen.

Â Deals with tenants don't occur overnight. K&D would not invest so much time and effort into this project unless they had very positive conversations with prospective tenants. With the tone of everything at the moment, I feel pretty confident about K&D's chances of landing an office tenant.

InterContinental is considering other Hotel Indigo locations in bustling communities outside downtown.  "At this point, I'm not at liberty to say where or with whom," he said. "There's probably one or two other opportunities in the Cleveland market that might make sense."  This is fascinating. I wonder if they have been speaking with UH or the UARD folks about something at University Circle. Â

June 9, 200817 yr So in the last few weeks we got the FEB hotel announcement, the Stark update, the Jacobs announcement, the 668 Euclid announcement, and now this. I think it's great news to hear it all happening when everyone out there is busy saying how bad the economy is.

Good news indeed!  The thing about this is, the sum of the "pieces" of developments are starting to make a "whole" pie.  From Public Square to East 9 there will be home Owners on Euclid Avenue proper.  The image of downtown and the city itself will change on a regional front as now a very lacking portion of our regional economy will start to grow. Services.  I think it would be safe to say, retailers are already, if they already haven't, got some sort of hold or lease on a space on lower Euclid. With the amount of housing on the way, three hotels (1 hotel, straybridge and the Hotel Indigo) at least one restaurant. Services can help at to our regional economy. Not exactly high paying white collar jobs, but jobs none the less.

I think if that one happened, it'd be one of the coolest hotels in Cleveland, based on the building/location. The bottom line is, the PD and other media sources have presented Cleveland as dangerous and sucky, but as soon as all these big projects blossom, everyone will realize the media has played on the emotions of America (again!) The truth is, the developers who are acting now on land deals and purchases will be richer than they ever imagined because they acted now. It's all the followers and wannabe developers who will come in later when they see where things are headed that will still make $ in Cleveland but not nearly as much as K&D, Jacobs, Stark, Wolstein, and Zaremba will have. But more importantly, it was these guys who will have helped bring Cleveland back. They deserve to be rich and they deserve to be thanked in a time when others were spitting on our kick ass city.

June 10, 200817 yr I've been to the Atlanta (Midtown), Chicago & Houston Galleria properties.  The Atlanta property was the first to open. It's Priority Clubs version of Aloft or Helix Hotels but not quite as chic.
June 10, 200817 yr Hotel Indigo looks like a winner to me for Cleveland - I'd still like to see a W or aloft. Those of us who like premium Starwood properties have few good choices in Ohio...  I like the room designs featured on the Indigo website - also the hardwood floors are a real plus to me - hotel carpet is usually some hideous pattern, designed to conceal whatever stains/bodily fluids are absorbed into it that the maid's 8 pound Oreck XL was unlikely to suction up... it's just gross to think about; bad enough I've started bringing my own plastic drinking glasses after that Dateline/60 Minutes story on how unclean the hotel glassware is (notice you rarely see fresh glasses on those maid carts), then I have to wear sandals all over the carpeted room too. Don't even get me thinking about those floral bedspreads at the budget inns. (Sorry for veering somewhat off topic)

Â Simply put, it doesn't seem that the aesthetic of Indigo really fits the oh-so-chic Brutalism of the Breuer. Their properties seem to be typified by bright colors, open airy designs, and well, as one review put it: "oversize Adirondack chairs and walls painted in shades of blue, peach, and green, while pineapple-shaped chairs line the bar." Â I would feel much better if it was announced that Kimpton was going to do the hotel, as they really seem to have mastered the ability of fitting their hotels in the context and personality of their environments. And yes, even a W or aloft would seem to be a more natural fit. Â I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all turns out, but I hope to God its not the cookie-cutter approach that they seem to have used in most of their other properties. Â

Â Â As the article points out, the developer is given much liberty to decide the look and feel of each Indigo property. And from what I understand, the developer will be using WRL as the architect. I feel pretty good about that.

June 11, 200817 yr I been reading the forums for a few months now and have finally gotten up the nerve to register. I think I would be a much more interesting project if they would incorporate some of breuers furniture into the space or even any from the bauhaus school when he was head cabinet making. there are authorized remakes of the wassily chair that would look amazing in the correct setting in a hotel lobby. it may be cost prohibitive to include them in all rooms as they retail for $1600 a peice. Â

Including the furniture and carpet. (with the exception of the women's rest room added).
June 11, 200817 yr thanks for the welcoming!  this renovation could really tie 3 projects into something amazing for tourists. think of staying in a hotel which was built by world famous architect and renovated to include some of his design concepts and furniture, take a state of the art brt to a one of the top art museum in the country which also includes an addition by the same architect. packages could be made to include discount tickets for special exhibits etc.
