Are they power washing the facade there?  Are they planning to clean the entire building?  And lets get some daytime pics!

Yes. They were power washing. Its actually the second time I've seen it happening there at night. The last time was last week and it was on the Euclid side

Wow, That's a pretty dramatic improvement. Can't wait to see all the detail when clean!

Anyone know if it has ever been cleaned in the past?  Maybe when the Breuer tower opened?

Wow, there are some priceless pics in that album!  I couldn't stop scrolling threw those and thinking "man I really wish those buildings were still around!"  The rotunda still looks like it has a bit of cleaning left to go.  I'm also glad that the twin Breuer tower was never built which meant more structures would have been demolished and lost forever.

 

^Hopefully some cornice restoration on that guy too.

 

The top has been dismantled to rebuild for the rooftop bar.

If we're lucky, we'd get a historic repro of the cornice which has been gone for a while. I dont imagine thats in the plans tho

I got a chance to tour The 9 this evening.  Moving along quickly.  Some of the apartments will be ready in August.  Several hotel rooms and apartments are already finished for models.  They are damn sexy if I may say so myself. 

The top floor of the hotel levels will be the Reserve at the 9.....essentially ultra upscale rooms.

The top four residential levels will be sky suites...4 suites per floor.  Those are the penthouse type large apartments.  The largest 3000sf apartment will rent for almost $6000 a month!  Chump change.  But the views and those apartments are bad ass.

By the way, out of those 16 total larger suites...13 are already spoken for.

The apartments have 8 ft tall Zebrawood doors and cabinets with cork flooring.

 

A little Bruer Tower tidbit.  During the tower's construction the president of the Cleveland Trust was adament about having a large fireplace in the lobby and Marcel said absolutely not.  So during construction, the president had a secret chimney constructed into the tower.  When Marcel was onsite, the contractors would lead him away from the chimney area.  Once the final punch list was completed, the president had the fireplace installed.

 

The theater seating will be pretty comfortable.

Also the original Bruer E. 9th street lobby facade will be reconstructed and repeated in the hotel room bed headboards.

They built little details into the furniture like gold bar coffee tables.

That's approaching the magical market rate. And the great part is it's not just the asking price. It's the taking price. People are renting the large apartments at the $2/sq ft rate.

I think the "more normal Seidman Center" reference isn't too far off and I'm not a fan of the dark green panels but eh... I guess it could be worse?

It looks way better than it did at the beginning but... Eh. Thankfully the impact of the project as a whole overshadows this bland building.

I'm not digging the stove, a built in oven/cooktop combo would do a lot to make it look more custom (although I'm surprised a high rise has what looks like a gas stove/cooktop which is nice...I thought fire code prevented gas appliances in a high rise). I also wonder about the thin bartop being cracked off when a party goer sits or dances on it, and also don't like the oversize box the microwave sits in. Its just looks like the attention to detail is missing from those points. That is my professional opinion. Not to be a wet blanket, it looks nice, but it looks like the developer spent a lot of money on finishes but needs a better interior designer to tighten up the details.

Not sure how you can tell from the photo if it's a gas or electric range. I do agree with the micro, but it has to be able to accommodate any size that someone brings in. I don't think these would be furnished with the micro's, but if they are then yes, it looks bad.

 

EDIT: from the second photo posted of the kitchen I can see that it's a gas range, it doesn't have the grill top installed. I don't see why gas would be a problem for a high-rise. You would have your floor and wall fire ratings and the gas lines would have backdraft preventers I'm sure.

Anyone who doubted my assertion that ultra-high end condos/apts on top of the new convention center hotel would not be marketable--take note!

Yeah I think if 432 Park can use a gas range at 1100' ft The 9 can at a quarter of that height.

Haha, no I don't...but buildings like this tend to attract a single and more party type person. Could also be that the homeower stands on it to change a light bulb, or put up a ballon, or sets children up there...etc. It just looks thin if any type of excessive weight were applied. Actually, once at a party I did see a woman with high heels on get up and dance on a granite topped kitchen island, and it cracked in half. Worst of all it was a houswarming and the kitchen was brand new...ooops!

 

It looks like the microwave issue was that the surround had not yet been installed in the first pic...so they are redeemed on that point.

FWIW, gas ranges are very common in high rises in other cities, and not just in ultra luxury new construction like 432 Park.

If I had a view like 432 Park I'd spend too much time staring out the window to cook anything.

 

The 9? I'd probably just stare out the windows 9 months out of the year.

Nice job Firenze.  I can't believe they're moving this fast.  Looks like this will be THE place to be when visiting/living downtown.

 

... as for the County Admin building, the early construction looked a lot worse than what it's turning out to be.  The green's a little ... different, but the mirrored glass makes it all a bit more tolerable... Remember, it's public office building after all.

How the situation has changed over the decorations.  At one time, like ca. 1890-1910, public buildings, if the community had money, were among the most ornate, costly type of construction.  Community pride and making a big splash were of very high priority.  In recent decades this philosophy became to embarrassing, yet public buildings still seem to cost a fortune - one reason being all the security and "green" issues.

There's going to be large video messaging boards advertising everything going on at "The 9".

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The much-anticipated opening of Heinen's Fine Foods' first downtown Cleveland store in The 9 building, originally slated for this October, has been postponed until early 2015.

 

 

"We just found that there was more to do than we anticipated to convert that space into a supermarket," said Jeff Heinen, co-president and third-generation owner. "The fall was always very optimistic, and the complexities of trying to design a new store in that space," the former Ameritrust bank building at the corner of East 9th Street and Euclid Avenue, were greater than expected.

 

He acknowledged the delay is likely to disappoint some people, but said that rather than trying to open at the very end of the year during what is often the busiest food shopping season, he and his brother, Tom, had decided to wait until the first quarter of 2015.

I am actually liking the new HQ thanks for posting!!

 

I'm looking forward to seeing that area when the building is occupied and the lights are on.  And what the bridge to the garage will looked like when it's cleaned up/painted, etc!!!

Not surprised.  I thought the Fall 2014 date was a bit overly ambitious.

Couple of things from design review.

The exterior signage is horrible. Why not incorporate the sign into the existing square cutout with just a 9  and no background?

^With the fonts they've selected, why even bother with that? I never work for free but this is one case where I'd happily donate my services so my eyes don't bleed every time I look at this. For god's sake, it's a Breuer-designed landmark, at the very least use a sans serif font like Helvetica Neue or Futura. It's the typographic equivalent of people who buy an ultra-modern condo and furnish it with faux-Tuscan overstuffed crap.

True/\. It's awful.
