You could probably creatively get around it.

If only you had gotten the Clevelander in that photo... In the Gateway thread I posted a question about scaffolding out front of the Clevelander. When you were taking those great pictures did you happen to see if they were refinishing the exterior? Thanks!

great pix thx - its getting there and it looks so much better.

I see the walkway is starting to get some new white paint or other cosmetic improvement.

Very interesting

When the sun is out E 9th is starting to look awesome. It's amazing what a difference the Geis brothers are making to the street.

Is it my imagination or does the concrete on the parking lot look like it's been power washed? It almost looks ok!

^I appreciate the pictures, but I have a hard time telling what anything really looks like because all of the colors have been "Instagramized"

Agreed. PaulI, what kind of camera are you using? Or do you touch them up before posting? Just curious

Hi Guys, yes, I do add a couple of Instagram presets. Partly necessity and partly choice. There's a lot of shadow downtown so I like to show as much detail as possible in what I take. so I select one preset that does that. The other, probably the one you don't care for, adds some color saturation. That's just a personal preference I have. I am a huge fan of all things Cleveland and I like the vibrancy it adds. I feel a lot of untouched pictures of Cleveland don't really do justice to the grandeur of the city and how things really looked to the naked eye.

That all said, I totally understand and respect why some people may look at my pictures and think they suck. But hopefully there is a value in posting them. I actually don't take the pictures for the purpose of posting them to urbanohio, but I figured that given that I enjoy reading all the postings on this site that I probably needed to give back and post some of the pictures I take.

Go Cleveland!!!!

Paul, I don't think you have to worry about there being value posting your photos.  Especially for those of us out of town, updates like yours are a serious lifeline. So thank you!

I've been enjoying seeing your pictures lately, so please keep posting them!

With respect to the skywalk, I think I'm in the minority when I say I don't really hate it. Especially now that it's been touched up. I think it adds a neat visual element to the city scape. I feel the same way about the Horseshoe skywalk.

Yes! Very much appreciated.

The first night you can book a room is October 15, and it looks like the standard room is between $300 and $333 a night.

That video board looked pretty good when i saw it today, late aftrernoon

Im likin the way the 1010 is cleaning up (but my old landscaping sense wants to personally pull out the dead shrubbery in the foreground)

1010 is looking great. Looked like today they were starting on the Truman Building.

^extensive exterior brickwork has been ongoing on the Truman since the beginning of the year. It has occurred on the Barn Ct. Side of the building... but that's a different project.

I saw the video board lit up tonight and all I can say is wow!  It really does look impressive and big!  It looks really cool heading East, on Prospect, because you can kind of see both sides of the sign.  It was advertising the 9 and had a lot of "iconic" references like their promo video.  This board really livens up the area!  I took a picture from my car but it turned out too blurry to give it justice.

That first shot, looks like another video board going up.

Yup. They've had the brackets up since the first board went up.

Speaking of which. I'm not really a fan of the way they're advertising the development on the boards. The whole "sex sells" approach seems kind of tacky. I was at the tribe game last night and noticed the board is mostly women showing their legs and rolling around in bed sheets.

I'm definitely a fan! sex2.gif

Not sure if this was previously mentioned, but they recently repainted the black part of the garage around the first video board. It is a vast improvement.

I know that they were recently working on the power washing the rotunda.  Are they finished with this or are they still working on it.  This building always looks dirty.

the Tower has been cleaned but i dont believe that the rotunda has been, unless it was just spot checking.

there is too much to do on the exterior...wouldnt cleaning be one of the last things done?

Scaffolding just only today went up over the window walls

The real cleaning of the Rotunda has begun. DCA moved into their space Monday.

Those video boards are really bright! I didn't notice until just the other night how much they light up the east side of the AT&T building.

I was on 18th and Prospect tonight and could clearly see that sign lighting up the side of the Medical Mutual Building like Christmas from that far away.  Definitely rivals the Horseshoe sign in brightness.  Residents and hotel guests will need some serious blackout curtains!

I walked down Huron this weekend and was really impressed with the progress being made. The County Admin building seems to fit really nicely into the area, and even the overhead bridge looks cool now it is fully covered in its new cladding.

^Yep. Its being rebuilt to the original design. Look for construction hoist to begin to go away... soon.

^^Thanks for the shot! I still vividly remember digging sadly through my photo archive a few years ago to make sure I had a pic of the pre-demo facade back when the plan was for full demo. Reminds me just how far we've come.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but this was presented to the planning commission last month.  Looks pretty nice to me ...

Now the new hotel/apartment building should get back the stunning Vaserelely lithograph that used to grace the bank entrance lobby and could be seen when entering from the sidewalk....

Work continues on the Breuer Tower and Rotunda and I spotted a worker in the 1010 building (Correct me if I'm wrong).

7a4aze8y.jpgdehe5yny.jpgy5uju8e6.jpgu6ugejys.jpgyjeryqyn.jpg

I think there were some doubts about the cornice of the 1010 building being restored, but it looks like the skeletal system is currently being assembled, starting from the Breuer side, moving frontwards.

Was there doubt?  The cornice would need to be restored if the state historic tax credits are to be used on this project.

Something along the lines of the Schofield cupola, it had been gone for so long...etc etc...

^Yep.  Whether or not any doubts were well founded, this is good, reassuring news. That lack of cornice always bugged me.

Yes the cornice was there prior to Geis taking over the building. The deteriorated Terra Cotta was removed months ago and now thw New FRP material is being installed.

The hoist is now gone on the Bruer Tower and the precast window panels are beginning to be installed.

Note McLovin's picture above and compare to this one I shot on Friday as the sandblasting of the rotunda continued:

And I've not seen this many lights on in the tower in 20 years:
