Posted November 14, 200519 yr It was announced today at the annual UCI meeting. With the University Circle area on the verge of some dynamic growth, I am glad that he will be in charge.
November 14, 200519 yr Breaking news! You heard it here first! I've said this elsewhere...University Circle will be the hub of growth for Cleveland in the next 20 years. More jobs will be added there than anywhere else in the region. It is of utmost importance that the leaders of institutions in and around the Circle be highly competence and cooperative amongst each other. I think Chris Ronayne will prove to be the pinnacle of this sort of leader. Wimwar, how do you feel he'll maintain or change the direction of UCI that the prior President, Terri Hamilton Brown?
November 15, 200519 yr That's funny. Just today, I called Chris at City Hall but was told "he's out and about." So I left a message for Chris to call me, but the call was returned by Bob Brown... Now I know why! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
November 15, 200519 yr Pope, Here's the best info I have on Chris. He started working for the county in its planning department. I don't know how he met Jane Campbell, then a state representative, but it was probably through her husband Hunter Morrison, then Cleveland's City Planning Commission director. I don't know whether Chris started working for Jane when she was a state rep (possibly as a legislative aide?), but he became her assistant when she won a seat on the Cuyahoga County commission. Chris has always been interested in urban sustainability issues, and he worked with me and others on writing a guidebook, "Car-Free in Cleveland" in 2000. When Jane was elected mayor, Chris went with her to City Hall, first becoming her director of planning and later as chief of staff. November 15, 200519 yr Ronanye heading to Univ. Circle Inc. By SHANNON MORTLAND 4:49 pm, November 14, 2005 Less than a week after Mayor Jane Campbell lost her re-election bid, her right hand man is jumping ship. Chris Ronayne, Mayor Campbell’s chief of staff, today was named president of University Circle Inc., the nonprofit group that handles growth and development in the University Circle community. He’ll start his new job in early December. More at crainscleveland.com http://www.crainscleveland.com
November 15, 200519 yr He graduated with a business degree from Miami and received his urban planning degree at CSU. His wife is one the top execs at the botanical garden. He is very engaging and has a lot of positive energy. This position should be stepping stone for him (although career-wise, it is probably just a lateral move). It will enable him to create relationships with some of Cleveland's more powerful institutions at a very important time.
November 15, 200519 yr ^you read urbanohio, live in cleveland, and don't know about ronayne? who says i actually read anything? have you read the majority of my posts?
January 9, 200619 yr Positive information however, I'm writing tubbs now. Cause the I-490 extension is - in my opinion - idotic, when they should be lobbying for funding to create a real rapid transit system. But this is another topic! :whip: :whip: Monday January 9, 2006 Coming full circle New UCI president works to realize his East Side district dream UCI president Chris Ronayne hopes to use the circle's existing attributes plus new construction to make the area a bustling destination. By SHANNON MORTLAND 6:00 am, January 9, 2006 Chris Ronayne envisions University Circle as Cleveland's 'international gateway to the world' — and he's prepared to give the nonprofit group he now heads a more direct role in developing and possibly financing the projects that could make that vision happen. As the new president of University Circle Inc., the nonprofit that promotes the growth of the arts, education and health care district east of downtown Cleveland, Mr. Ronayne plans to use the circle's existing attributes plus new construction to turn it into a destination spot.
