Posted September 14, 200915 yr I just remembered- last year we were getting hammered by strong winds. The remnants of Hurricane Ike. I remember standing looking out my bedroom window (with the window open none-the-less!) watching the trees swaying back and forth. Worrying if the one in our front yard was going to come crashing down. We did lose several limbs from it though and many more from the trees in the back yard. A few rather large limbs too. But thankfully no major damage from the storm. Some of my neighbors didn't fare so well. :( I have some pictures of the limbs in my back yard but they aren't loaded on my son's computer which I'm using so I'll have to post later.
September 14, 200915 yr I remember this very well. We didn't have power for about 3 days, which was a lot better than some neighborhoods. The eeriness of the still nights actually inspired me to write a short story which I'm developing into a comic book. :)
September 14, 200915 yr On this date last year, I was holding my breath, crossing my fingers, and worried to death during the 2 week waiting period to find out if our IVF procedure had been successful.
September 14, 200915 yr I was in Louisiana carting folks from the upstate hurricane shelters back to their homes near the coast. I was getting a ridiculous amount of phone calls from family and friends since they associated me with the storm.
September 14, 200915 yr Another thing: I went outside and uprooted all of the no parking signs around my house because the wind was knocking them back and forth so much that they were likely to fly out and smash into someone's car.
September 14, 200915 yr I think we were without power for about a week. I remember I had to go to a friend's house in Kettering to do laundry. She had power on her side of the street but the power across the street from her was out. Also in my neighborhood there were some streets that had power but others didn't. We still had hot water so I was able to do dishes and take showers. Was interesting when it got dark. Using flashlights and candles. My neighbors across the street had a generator so they could even watch TV. I remember ice was hard to come by and so had to call places to find out if they had any. Wound up giving some of my hamburger to a neighbor since I couldn't cook it. I have an electric stove. Did a lot of reading during the day as no computer access unless I wanted to go up to the library or the church which both had power. I did a couple of times. Also used church to plug in my battery charger and recharge batteries for my radio. Also recharged my cell phone there. It was a rather interesting week.
September 14, 200915 yr I rather liked it. :) You like sitting in the dark for days..... If that's as creative as you can get, than I feel for you, truely. There's a lot one can do without electricity. FYI, there's a reason a lot of babies are born 9 months after a blackout. :)
September 14, 200915 yr Oh...You poor people and your terrible experience. Well I wouldn't say it was terrible for me but I'm sure it was pretty rough for some people. I know people who were sick and elderly didn't fare so well during that time. Especially if they depended on electricity to run medical equipment they needed. Also if anyone had damage to their house or car or person .... I think I remember that at least two people were killed from it here in Ohio.

I know the sister of one of the people killed. She was sitting in her living room and the tree in the front yard fell over, smashed through the house and killed her. Absolutely terrible.
