Posted September 15, 200915 yr Google isn't particular helpful, though I will be checking out the View on Prospect this weekend, plus I've heard Sunset on W9 has some salsa sometimes. Does anyone have any other places in mind? It doesn't have to be in downtown Cleveland per se, just in the NE Ohio area.
September 15, 200915 yr It's not in NE Ohio and probably doesn't help you at all, but if you ever find yourself in Cincinnati on a Monday, the Mad Frog in Corryville hosts Tropicoso for a salsa night. It's pretty fun.
September 15, 200915 yr Outside of my Livingroom, I don't know. LOL Touch on Lorain and on one Detroit, Madison or Franklin (i think) in the 90's. Do you speak Spanish?
September 16, 200915 yr Just my experience - if you see "Salsa Night" advertised at a relatively mainstream club, expect to see one or two couples (usually friends of the owner) tearing up the floor and everyone else pretty much velcro'd to the wall watching them. Oh, and forget carrying on a conversation if it's with a live salsa band. Again, just my experience - one I *wanted* to enjoy but ugh. I have a feeling I'd have had a MUCH better time in the more authentic spot albeit its location in a MUCH sketchier neighborhood. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
September 16, 200915 yr I will say this with fear of being banned.. :-D ...but I have to disagree with the statement about only a few couple tearing it up and others on the wall. I have been to Sunset many times and the place was packed..I have heard Silk is the new spot...also la Boca on 58th and Detroit. You CAN go to the barrios to find the local feel, but to be honest, I have been and they can be a little scetchy. There is PLENTY of latin feel at the Salsa night spots. As I had posted earlier...check out those sites, check out the dancers on video, and get a feel for what those place have to offer. There ARE places in the neighborhoods on the near West side as well as in Lorain (city of). Not trying to be uppity or anything, but I prefer the nicer spots. More Latin music, less hip hop, and people usually dress to impress (more or less) AND most offer some lessons before the night really kicks off (usually around 11 or 12). I am not Latin, but through my years of chasing Latinas around this city, I have found a few good places! ;) lol
September 16, 200915 yr Thanks for the advice. I'm going to check out View on Friday and perhaps I do like Touch, MTS, but I've never really seen people Salsa'ing before. The basement is usually more typical club stuff. Also, I went to Sunset on Monday for Tango lessons. 8 guys and three girls = probably my last class unless I bring a girl next time

Personally, people will look at you and think, "look at the Gringo" and you'll get the cold shoulder and/or everyone will switch to Spanish at the same time. Lorain has a ton of clubs.
September 16, 200915 yr I speak Spanish as well as anyone who took it in high school. Not very but a nominal amount.

September 19, 200915 yr Salsa dancing at the View was ok, but the place WAY overcharges on drinks (4 bucks for a bud, 5 bucks for water???). The lessons were pretty good; the post-lessons dancing...eh, it's not the easiest place to meet people.

September 20, 200915 yr Thats why I asked if he spoke Spanish. Personally, people will look at you and think, "look at the Gringo" and you'll get the cold shoulder and/or everyone will switch to Spanish at the same time. Lorain has a ton of clubs. Just curious, but why do you think this is MTS, prejudous, mean spirited...? When the hispanics give me any problems in DC (like when they are throwing beer bottles on the ground (while leaning on a trash can) passed out on my stoop (and I cant get passed them), pissing and crapping in public etc)) I just mention INS or policia and they disappear. (granted these ones are from places like El Salvador, Honduras and Guatamala and are almost always illegal)

(granted these ones are from places like El Salvador, Honduras and Guatamala and are almost always illegal) Not mean spirited or prejudice, just my own experiences. When white single men show up at a Latin bar or club, they are usually interested in Latin women. Latin men are very territorial and jealous. As a gay man of color the last thing I would want people to think is - I'm prejudice. Yes, I've experienced racism in various forms, but I deal with each of those people/situations on an individual basis. The folks you list above, I would call the police (those individuals are compromising you level of security and at the same time bringing down your neighborhood) and the department of homeland security. If they are not here legally then they need to go!
September 20, 200915 yr I see what your saying. In DC it isnt really something the police would do anything about (I tried that before, it was kinda like "you arent from around here are ya"). There are literally hundreds of thousands of illegals from these areas here. I think DC police have bigger fish to fry, plus they overwhelming supply the service and labor sector here.
