May 14, 201213 yr Sorry, I was wrong. Well... the PD was wrong... :P "The food court restaurants (Corky & Lenny's, B Spot and Rosie & Rocco's) will serve from 10 a.m. to midnight daily, with extended weekend hours. At The Spread buffet, breakfast will be served 7-10 a.m. Monday-Saturday; daily lunch, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; dinner, 4-10 p.m. daily. Sunday brunch will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Because of state gaming regulations, minors are prohibited from entering any part of the casino, including its restaurants. (A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that children can dine in The Spread by entering only through Tower City.)" -from the article I mentioned
May 15, 201213 yr :yap: If anyone is going to the Casino tonight, by RTA Rapids or buses, please keep out-of-towners informed with pictures and comments you happen to hear. Can anyone tell if the trains are more crowded?

Is this common in a 24 hour casino? I would imagine there might not be many customers but I thought they would want to offer food choices to the night owl gamblers. Excuse my ignorance but I have never been in a casino any where in my life.
May 15, 201213 yr I was downtown today and wondered what those looooong lines were all about!!! At first, I thought maybe they were awaiting to visit the grand, opulent, classic, classy, historic Higbee Building which now houses the austere and prominent "legend" Horseshoe Casino.... such a great renovation and added touch of class downtown. But wait!!! (tires screeching on the bike) I honed in to take a closer look at the folks waiting in the line and thought to myself.. "This cannot be the crowds awaiting to visit the casino.....Noooo".... This crowd is about one of a few possible things... 1. A new branch of the county welfare department opened up near Public Square and was handing out grand opening freebies like cigarettes or perhaps food stamps.... 2. A new Wal-Mart opened on the Higbee Building's upper floors... or possibly 3. Jenny Craig Weight Loss Centers was hosting their annual convention at Tower City! Pheewww... thank goodness! I am so glad that crowd must have been there for one of those three things and NOT the grand casino!!! Wow! That crowd was far skankier than any bus stop 3: 00 PM crowd I have ever witnessed! Oh... and all the police, security, ambassadors and all.....Glad to see they are there for families or individuals who want to par-take in cultural aspects of the city.... and not there for just the sake of the casino. Indeed, this gracious building turned into a class act venue that is surely going to attract a crowd that demonstrates the same dignity and respect for such a storied place by doing the town right.... all swanked up in complementary attire to the venue! How exciting!!!
May 15, 201213 yr ^lol. I like the analysis. Not sure if this was mentioned before, but "For Goodness Jakes" will now be open 24-hrs according to this news report: http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland_metro/horseshoe-casino-cleveland-employees-excited-to-start
May 15, 201213 yr Granted this is from a casino marketing person, and it's opening night, but for some contrast to the folks that were apparently hanging out earlier.

May 15, 201213 yr I just watched the opening remarks online. Dan Gilbert, frank Jackson, Marcus glover, etc. followed by a very impressive 3D projection show like the one I posted above. The building "opened" and a train went through showing pictures of the old Higbees days followed by several attractions and then money, chips, slots etc. it was pretty cool!

May 15, 201213 yr Newsnet5 has a video of the 3D opening ceremony. http://www.newsnet5.com/dpp/news/local_news/cleveland_metro/horseshoe-casino-cleveland-officially-opens-lines-of-people-file-in
May 15, 201213 yr I have yet to see the finished building in person, but from the pictures it appears that they lit the building beautify.
May 15, 201213 yr Clueless, thanks for showcasing with all these great pics. http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,26324.0.html
May 15, 201213 yr "About $350 million was invested into Phase I of the casino and it’s expected to bring in 5 million visitors annually. Work on Phase II will start soon along Huron Street across from Quicken Loans Arena and will be operated by one of Caesars Entertainment's other brands." Whoa! From the Newsnet5 article posted above. As far as I know, this is the first time I've seen mention of the possibility of Phase 2 not being Horseshoe branded. Anyone heard of this before!? – and apologies if it has been mentioned. Seems unlikely based on the legislation, but what do I know. May 15, 201213 yr National coverage via Forbes. Please feel free to help populate the comments section ;) :D Cleveland Makes Opening Bid on the City Casino Gamble http://www.forbes.com/sites/markbergen/2012/05/14/cleveland-makes-opening-bid-on-the-city-casino-gamble/
May 15, 201213 yr That is surprising and interesting, although I'm still a pessimist in regard to Phase 2 happening.
May 15, 201213 yr The line to get in is still past the Tower City valet parking on Prospect. https://www.instagram.com/cle_and_beyond/https://www.instagram.com/jbkaufer/
May 15, 201213 yr Unfortunately my friends and I did not get to go in... the wait was too long and spanded down Prospect to the Detroit/Superior Bridge. Does anyone know if they are doing the 3d building show every night? If so, what time? They didn't really thinking out that if all of the people were lining up down prospect.. they wouldn't be able to see the show going on in public square? Just listen to the lack of response at the end of the NewsNet5 Video

May 15, 201213 yr Only the VIP and the people who weren't in line got to see it really. The line was astonishingly long and did snake around for blocks
May 15, 201213 yr The 3D video clips I saw were very impressive. D I S N E Y parks do a similar nightly show that's even more spectacular but it took them years just to laser map the building/castle they project the show on - plus untold millions from their nearly unlimited resources. For a one-off show that surely took less time and cost less they did a great job at casino.
May 15, 201213 yr it is somewhat of a shame that so much effort was put into making a high-class space and then any slob in a t-shirt & flip flops can come on in. A very loose dress code would be nice. Something like no untucked shirts or ball caps maybe for starters. Oh well that'll never happen. Whatever.
May 15, 201213 yr I don't think any other casinos have dress codes. At least, none of the ones I've been in.
May 15, 201213 yr since this thread has been changed to phase 1, should it be a completed project, or should it stay in the project&construction section while we are in Phase II limbo?

Wouldn't your comment be like me looking down on you for not wearing European designer as opposed to American? Think about that! I'm sure you've been to Vegas, AC, Windsor, NoLA, etc.? The dress code is casual, unless you're going to a high dollar room where the dress code is stated on invites and required.
May 15, 201213 yr I never say this, but I agree with MTS. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
May 15, 201213 yr Wow did they do a nice job with that video. I hope this excitement can last a while, it's nice to get this feeling around town!

That is the great thing about casinos, all walks of life are welcome. People get to interact with people they might not have other wise. It makes it fun. Everyone's money is good there.

May 15, 201213 yr Stanley Block - Isn't there supposed to be a decision coming from a judge regarding demolition of this stanley block building somewhere around now. Anybody hear anything?

May 15, 201213 yr Just heard from a co-worker who stood in line at lunch to get in. She said there are 4 lines all wrapping around the block to get in. Dang!
May 15, 201213 yr Would it be a far fetched pipe dream to imagine that a hotel would try to above the Casino to capitalize on the Casino?
