May 30, 20169 yr I'll admit, I've been anti-new JACK casino sign from the start, but I honestly have been trying to keep an open mind and wait for it to be installed before passing final judgement. But man, I really don't think that looks good.

But man, I really don't think that looks good. Whenever you get discouraged by Dan Gilbert's bad taste, just remember, this could have been a Caesars Casino with all kinds of tacky faux Roman ruins and columns and statues etc. In comparison to what could have been, I think we're okay.
May 30, 20169 yr My dislike for the Jack branding and the new signage doesn't run as deep as most of you. I am actually OK with it. Never was a fan of the Horseshoe Casino name here, it just never worked for me. But I like big bold signs that light up and visually make alot of 'noise' . That's a city to me, it's where it belongs.

Quite true. Despite the large sign though, I think the rest of the JACK stuff looks good. I really like the red color scheme of the flags and awnings. It adds some much needed color to that area.
May 30, 20169 yr We were driving around downtown yesterday after the Taste of summer in the Flats. As we drove up Prospect the new JACKS signage with very dominant at the end of the road. I personally thought it looked great. Definitely more prominently announces what's there.
May 31, 20169 yr Definitely eye catching. I get both sides of the argument about this sign. But it is what it is and it's not going anywhere right now. The fact is no permanent damage has come to the Higbee building and that's what counts. It's being well maintained and being used! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's a city to me, it's where it belongs.[/quote'] I definitely don't like the name "Jack Casino". But I'll take it ANYDAY over the horrible HORSESHOE name. "Horseshoe" conjures up country music and the old west--maybe some pickup truck and cowboy hats-----very very very uncleveland and not an image that either says 'cleveland' or that will propel the city forward and it needs all the help it can get.
May 31, 20169 yr Horseshoe is relevant to luck so that made sense to me. I think Jack is just completely horrible. But you're right. At least for the foreseeable future, it's here to stay.
May 31, 20169 yr I hated "JACK" but now I like it, if the brand is edgier/sleeker, more like the Cosmopolitan, Aria, etc... in Las Vegas. Love the signage. If so, it won't be for Granny and Grandpa (they will still go to the suburban CLE racinos for or their slot play) but perhaps a more upscale look and feel will attract a better clientele overall (... wishful thinking...)
May 31, 20169 yr Who knows? The jack is obviously one of the face cards in every deck of cards. That card is also called "the knave," which implies roguishness and mischief, suitable for a casino. There is also that game of 21 they play at tables, BLACKJACK. Maybe none of these references apply to their thinking, but I did notice a strange similarity between the JACK Casino signage and that of JACK's Deli in University Heights! hmmmm.
June 1, 20169 yr I don't love the sign, but it looks better than I expected. I'd be willing to take 3 more of those JACK signs in exchange for taking down that pedestrian walkway...
March 8, 20178 yr Jack Cleveland Casino's February revenue is 9.8 percent lower than prior year By Karen Farkas, cleveland.com on March 07, 2017 at 2:54 PM, updated March 07, 2017 at 4:03 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio - Jack Cleveland Casino's February revenue was the lowest for that month since the casino opened. The casino's total revenue of $16.5 million was a 9.8 percent decrease from February 2016. But the casino, like the other three casinos and seven racinos in Ohio, saw revenue increase from January, despite February having fewer days. Mild weather could have been a factor. March 8, 20178 yr "Mild weather could have been a factor." Are people more apt to gamble when the weather is terrible or mediocre, or was the reporter just looking to fulfill his 500 word quota? I can think of 17 other rational decisions why it dropped 9.8%. Hell, let's make it an even 20. It's like when people say the stock market is "correcting" when it drops 500 points. Just a waste of words.

Statewide revenue was up compared to last year and better weather might be a factor.
October 10, 20195 yr Report is the casino has bought out the strip. Ontario Lounge last day open Downtown is Saturday Edited October 10, 20195 yr by osu4brutus03

October 10, 20195 yr The casino should add a side entrance on Ontario for valet/curbside drop off. At public square is too congested, plus it would add much needed activity to that strip. Also needs to be in conjunction with a narrowing of the street and the accommodation of a curb cut out for a drop off area. Imo

October 31, 20195 yr Some interesting things on the design review... again why cant all of this happen WITHOUT the skywalk? I dont know. But things I like... finally enhancing the streetscape on Ontario and wrapping around Prospect. Adding greenery. Adding a cafe/retail spot on the corner of Ontario and W Prospect. Remodeling that awful garage and renovating the ground level storefronts. All great things, but why are they only happening now?
October 31, 20195 yr JACK Entertainment’s plan for elevated walkway over Ontario Street clears design review, but with strings attached An advisory panel for Cleveland’s planning commission narrowly approved JACK Entertainment’s plan to build an elevated walkway over Ontario Street, but not before a debate over whether it would really help revitalize the street below. JACK Entertainment wants to build a walkway that will connect the upper floors of the old Higbee Building to parking in the former May Co. parking garage across Ontario between Public Square and Prospect Avenue. The easy access to parking would make upper floors in the Higbee Building attractive for leasing, sparking activity in the neighborhood, Len Komoroski, a principal in JACK Entertainment, told a design-review panel on Thursday. The Cleveland Planning Commission’s Downtown|Flats Design Review Advisory Committee gave its approval by a 5-4 vote Thursday, sending it to the full Planning Commission. ... Ultimately the committee approved the bridge, but will require JACK Entertainment to provide more details of its plan for the street. JACK Entertainment Vice President Gino Del Pup said the company was willing to commit to providing a master plan. ... July 3, 20204 yr Dan Gilbert has sold his controlling interest in JACK Cleveland (both downtown casino and the racetrack) to Matt Cullen. It appears Gilbert maintains a minority stake, but Cullen is the majority owner and operator. It also appears that the Casino will be reverting back to Horseshoe Cleveland.
July 31, 20213 yr SATURDAY, JULY 31, 2021 Higbee's Public Square façade to add outdoor gambling For generations, from 1931-2002, many of us did what Ralphie Parker and his friends did in the movie "A Christmas Story." We fogged up the icy Public Square windows at Higbee's department store downtown while looking at the latest toys and gifts that were available inside. Even today, as one-armed bandits and card games on green felt tables raged inside, the Higbee Building's Public Square windows of the JACK Cleveland Casino still displayed a holidays-themed motif featuring items from the 1983 movie for people strolling past. If plans submitted by JACK Entertainment are approved by the city, those will no longer be seen on Cleveland's Public Square and a short section of the Ontario Street side. The reason is that the first floor of the casino facing the square will have its glass windows and front entrance removed to create an outdoor patio offering year-round gambling using electronic gaming terminals. July 31, 20213 yr Wow I’m not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand the entire area around the casino needs so much help. It’s kind of a mess and doesn’t seem to be well maintained. This would definitely liven up street life but I’m worried about the modifications to the classic Higbee building. The current state of Ontario is so rough I guess I’m curious if this might help. 🤷🏻♂️

August 5, 20213 yr Summer is waning. I'm surprised they weren't all over this earlier in the year to be ready for May/June, especially coming out of a year of Covid and need for outdoor space.
May 4, 20223 yr Downtown sites to add retail sports betting By Ken Prendergast / April 13, 2022 After Ohio legalized sports betting last December, several locations in downtown Cleveland are getting ready to compete in offering sportsbook retail venues where customers can place bets on a wide variety of sporting events. And they’re doing it before the Ohio Casino Control Commission has established the ground rules for making applications for up to 40 sportsbook licenses statewide. May 4, 20223 yr $950,000 will be spent to convert 975 square feet of the casino's existing food court space into a new Starbucks location. John Kaminski of Van Auken Akins Architects LLC is submitting the building permit application to the city. June 29, 20231 yr The planters Bedrock installed around Tower City and their surrounding properties are wonderful and a huge improvement. The planters that the casino installed in front of their building, however, are atrocious and to make it worse they filled them with plastic plants. Please let this be some sort of change to that.
