"Turnpike traffic is on the rise," the state Turnpike Authority said in its justification for the project. "By 2032 northbound traffic volume is expected to increase by nearly 68 percent [above 2005 levels]; southbound traffic is forecasted to increase by 92 percent." May 5, 201510 yr 5/4/2015 Lawsuit claims Ohio Turnpike toll increase violates commerce clause By David Tanner, Land Line senior editor A plaintiff in Ohio claims the state’s turnpike commission has violated the commerce clause of the U.S. Constitution by using funds from a 2014 toll increase to pay for projects unrelated to turnpike functions. Motorist and turnpike user Melissa Ullmo is listed as the plaintiff. She is a Cuyahoga County resident. Ullmo filed a complaint seeking class action status against the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission in the Court of Common Pleas in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, on April 27. According to the lawsuit, Ullmo claims that $930 million in turnpike funds from the Jan. 1, 2014, toll increase are marked for non-turnpike functions. Around 53.4 million vehicles, the 2015 mark, bests the previous record from 2006, which was 51.8 million. In 2015, the Turnpike also recorded the second-most number of vehicle miles traveled in its history with over 3 billion vehicle miles traveled, according to a news release. December 28, 20195 yr OK, so I still have never gotten over the removal of the OHIO TURNPIKE neon letters at the turnpike gates. And I loved how the old gates were subtle different shades of green on different surfaces. It was classic modern highway design. Like National Park signs. But has anyone noticed that the (at least historical) designation of WESTGATE at the Indiana border and EASTGATE at the PA Border is now seemingly gone. I noticed that WESTGATE is now even more boringly called EXIT 2. Seriously, just when you thought Ohio couldn't get more characterless. I know its petty, but that kind of stuff bugs me. December 28, 20195 yr Well, I grew up a quarter-mile from Exit 9, which was called North Olmsted-Cleveland, even though the exit was in North Ridgeville. But it appears that nationwide, exits are being numbered by mileage now, rather than names, which at least gives you a sense of how much you have to go.
