July 25, 20222 yr It looks like two different cranes jumped over the weekend. The nearest crane looks like it may have reached its final height, although it's difficult to tell from this angle.

August 31, 20222 yr I'm torn on the wave. I think it might create the effect of a glass tower from one angle and a windowless tower from another.
August 31, 20222 yr https://www.thelantern.com/2022/08/new-larger-facility-to-replace-dodd-rehabilitation-hospital-will-provide-more-jobs-and-treatment/ Sounds like another new facility is coming for the OSU's medical center -- Dodd Rehab Hospital is being replaced by a new facility out on Taylor Road by Ohio State Hospital East, due by 2025. It will be 30% larger than the existing facility. Curious to see if the existing facility on main campus will be torn down or if the space will be used for something else.

You would think that the building is in good enough shape to just renovate and reuse. But I will say space in that area of campus is super tight. With the public safety building being right there, the rec center and other facilities I could maybe see them tearing down some of the smaller buildings to the south of it and putting all of those facilities under one roof.

September 23, 20222 yr I got one picture. The fellow driver ahead of me drove all the way from Texas just to see the new medical center.
September 29, 20222 yr Few different looks of the new tower I wanted to get a few more, but this little guy kept following me around! lol
October 25, 20222 yr This is coming along nicely. I was at Lennox Center yesterday and it did just seem normal to me-progressing well and not really massive or anything. I have already accepted and normalized it's presence and what I really was thinking was "now they need some more towers to go with this..." lol. When completed I think this will look great with the OSU logo on top. The whole area is really sprouting with buildings and it is nice to see it. The area is a little boomtown. November 16, 20222 yr Ohio State Wexner Medical hospital tower set to grow to $1.9B project “Finishing interior construction of 120 rooms initially planned as "shell" structures will avoid disrupting patient care once the new University Hospital opens in 2026, administrators said in a request before trustees. The request adds $85 million to the $1.8 billion design and construction cost for the 820-bed hospital. It does not include furnishings or equipment, however. An additional 78 rooms were originally planned for structural completion but not furnishing, so the tower is expected to open with 622 beds at first. Medical center trustees unanimously approved the addition Tuesday; the full university board takes it up on Thursday. A "topping off" ceremony is set for next week, when the final iron beam is put in place on the 27th floor. The 1.9-million-square foot building is the largest single building project in OSU history. Preparatory projects before construction started in 2020 bring the entire cost to $2.1 billion“ https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/11/16/ohio-state-wexner-medical-tower-more-beds.html
November 21, 20222 yr Gorgeous sunrise in the Arch City this AM. The OSU tower looks like part of the downtown skyline from this angle.
November 21, 20222 yr My sister is an OSU grad and hadn't been near the campus area in probably over 6 months due to a busy schedule. This thing blew her mind this past weekend when she saw it, couldn't fathom how small it makes everything else look. Those two dorm buildings by the stadium and hospital use to tower over everything and now they look tiny in comparison.
November 22, 20222 yr Early yesterday, some cracking was found in one concrete column in the new tower: "The medical center postponed a previously planned topping out ceremony to mark the installation of the final structural beams on the new inpatient hospital. Out of an abundance of caution, steel work has been temporarily paused on the project. On Monday morning, cracking was found in one concrete column. The cracking appears to be isolated and localized to one column, and there are more than 60 additional concrete or steel columns on each level of the structure. Based on an initial review from the structural engineer of record, at this time Ohio State has been advised that there is not a safety issue that impacts the remainder of the building. The structural engineer of record and an additional third-party engineer will further examine the site to determine when steel work and related construction can resume." https://wexnermedical.osu.edu/mediaroom/pressreleaselisting/updated-media-advisory-beat-xichigan-tailgate-event

The cracks were found Monday morning, prompting the university to pause steel work on the $1.79 billion additional tower at its Wexner Medical Center. The cracking appeared to be isolated to one concrete column and there are more than 60 additional concrete or steel columns on each level of the building, according to the medical center. A structural engineer reviewed the cracked column and advised the university that there is not a safety issue that impacts the rest of the building. The engineer and an additional third-party engineer will further examine the site to determine when steel work and related construction can resume, according to the medical center. Construction on other portions of the new tower will continue while the steel work is paused. November 25, 20222 yr The running theory is possibly a bad batch of concrete. It appears to be crumbling under weight rather than a typical settlement crack. FWIW, the James has settlement cracks that can be traced through several stories from soon after its construction but they generally pose less of a concern than what this is. Any structure will exhibit settlement stress no matter how new it is. It is a bit scary to look at this and think that it appears to have been not far away from being enclosed and undiscovered. Granted, there are still dozens more support columns, but still. Edited November 25, 20222 yr by DTCL11

November 25, 20222 yr Ohio State hospital tower did not sink because of structural damage, university says “Ohio State University hit pause earlier this week on the construction of part of its new inpatient hospital towerafter substantial cracks were discovered in a concrete, but the tower did not sink because of it as had been stated in a local Twitter post. The structural engineer of record and an additional third-party engineer examined the cracks, which were found Monday morning and prompted the university to halt steel work on the $1.79 billion tower at its Wexner Medical Center. Ohio State spokesman Ben Johnson said Friday that the cracking was a result of a compression issue on one concrete column, and the problem appears to be isolated to a single column. There are more than 150 other concrete or steel columns on that level of the building, Johnson said. Johnson said the cracks will be fixed by reinforcing the impacted concrete column. The construction site was already scheduled to close Thursday through Saturday this week for Thanksgiving.“ https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2022/11/25/ohio-state-says-hospital-tower-did-not-sink-due-to-structural-damage/69676789007/

The additional third-party engineer is from Chicago, he said."
