There’s a lot of work going on behind the scenes at Union Terminal right now, but Cincinnati Museum Center visitors will see big changes when all of its renovated spaces open to the public in 2018.

The repair and renovation of the 83-year-old Cincinnati icon is underway, but Museum Center CEO Elizabeth Pierce said the changes to exterior walls, the property’s fountain and other big projects will be starting soon.

OT, but did anyone catch The Flash last night?  The building they showed, which I assume is the future Hall of Justice, is obviously an edited version of Union Terminal!

They also showed it tonight on Legends of Tomorrow.

The $213 million restoration of Cincinnati’s Union Terminal has been underway for several months, but the project just received the final piece of the puzzle for its funding.

Cincinnati Museum Center, Union Terminal LLC and Union Terminal Corp. have secured historic tax credit investment and bridge financing from PNC Bank, Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Fifth Third Bank.

A few photos of the ongoing construction at Union Terminal. The exterior masonry is looking beautiful:

Based on this photo, it appears they have completely demolished the old fountains in front of Union Terminal:

One area that proved particularly susceptible to water penetration is the plaza in front of the building, which sits above mezzanine and lower level museum spaces below, including portions of the Museum of Natural History & Science, Cincinnati History Museum and Duke Energy Children’s Museum. Steel beneath the plaza has been affected by water penetration and requires more extensive work than anticipated.

It may have been completely disassembled and taken off site for restoration, and will be brought back and reassembled when complete.

It sounds like they found issues that made them to unexpectedly fully close down the Children's Museum for a few months.  It's a shame since that was such a good place to take the kids on those cold messy winter Cincinnati days.

Good point... they probably can re-use a lot of the pre-cast and granite pieces.

Yep they did number & disassemble all of the outer parts. There is a locked fenced area at the front left as you pull in that has all the stone to be replaced.

This video shows that they did de-construct the fountain in a way that they'll be able to re-install the historic stone and terrazzo pieces.
