Posted October 11, 200915 yr Franklinton sits just across the river on the west side of Downtown. Along with the huge Hilltop neighborhood further west, these two large neighborhoods comprise what people generally refer to as the west side. Like other neighborhoods that haven't seen much investment until recently there are better parts than others, but that's unfortunately enough for people to write off the neighborhood altogether, which doesn't make sense. The neighborhood is home to the annual Urban Scrawl event which draws visitors from all over the city (like myself) and consists of mural painting, skateboarding, live music, etc. There are numerous restaurants clustered in the middle of the main commercial strip on Broad, while the parallel streets W. Town and Sullivant serve mostly as residential streets with commercial buildings located at intersections, which if utilized would make the neighborhood extremely walkable. The Franklinton Development Association has done great work rehabbing and building homes anew, while the city has chosen Franklinton as a focus for mobility planning to make equalize the playing field for pedestrians, cyclists, and mass transit accessibility (although I have my criticisms of some of their methods). The revitalization process is well underway and the area has reasons to visit in it's current state. MAP
October 11, 200915 yr Excellent architecture! Nice shot of the "Family Market" Nothing says family like beer and cigarettes!
October 11, 200915 yr I used to live on Dana Ave. There's some cool buildings in the neighborhood but I don't know if I could ever move back there. This is one of my favorite buildings. I love the proportions.
October 11, 200915 yr Great tour of a neighborhood that many people believe could be "the next Short North". Certainly it has some great architecture and affordable real estate prices. A couple of my favorites are the restored Toledo & Ohio Railroad Depot building and the old Engine House #10. The Engine House #10 is now boarded up because the city built a new fire station next door. By the way, that new fire station is a pretty nice neo-historical design - and LEED certified too. I found a few photos of the new Engine House #10 from last year's dedication ceremony.

October 13, 200915 yr Love Franklinton. It still has a long way to go (and I think that's what I love about it).
October 13, 200915 yr Nice shots. I'm hopping on the No. 10 in a half hour to meet an ODOT friend for lunch at Tommy's Diner.
January 12, 201015 yr Love Franklinton. It still has a long way to go (and I think that's what I love about it). Ditto. The potential of Franklinton is incredible....location, location, location.
