Hancock is located across from Houghton.  The Portage Lake Lift Bridge connects the 2 towns.  I loved it here because the towns are on hills so you could be in one town and look across the see the other.

very cool -- how did you arrange that?!

They do public mine tours.  It's pretty cool.  They then scare you by shutting of all the lights in the mine to show you what it was like

I was actually up in Calumet when this building burned.  Extremely tragic.  Several people died in the back of the bulding.  The cause of fire is believed to be arson.  The building is a total loss and will be demolished soon.

Interesting-looking town; lots of building facade remuddling ove the years, but interesting because of the variety of eras and styles.

Mine tours can be eye-opening; the Lackawanna Mine Tour near Scranton PA and its accompanying museum are first-rate.

I wandered around the area near our hotel and took these pictures.

Great Pics!  I went on that mine tour a few winters ago and it is amazing.  They show you one of the slopes they would mine and it goes down a long, long, long way.  We didn't get to ride on the tram however.  We had to walk through the snow.  I'll try to take some pics this winter, they get an amazing amount of snow up there!
