October 13, 200915 yr Nice thread, thanks for posting. I really love the second to last skyline shot. What a great, unappreciated view of the city :)
October 13, 200915 yr Two things I love about Dayton: the art museum, and the way you have the gentle grassy slopes going down to the river. I dont know why, but that always just makes the river look so peaceful and undisturbed to me.
October 13, 200915 yr Great job!!! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 13, 200915 yr Two things I love about Dayton: the art museum, and the way you have the gentle grassy slopes going down to the river. I dont know why, but that always just makes the river look so peaceful and undisturbed to me. I'll second that. Dayton's Art Institute is first-rate and its setting is hard to beat, with its outstanding view of downtown. The river's path through the city is a real asset, providing scenic beauty and space for recreation.
October 14, 200915 yr I really hope this city comes out its sad economic condition. It has so much potential and so much to work with already. Great photos too. Do you think things are improving now or will in the not too distant future? I am just hearing so much bad.
October 14, 200915 yr The Great Miami River was modified in a flood control project following the 1913 flood. The same project also modified the Great Miami River in Hamilton.
October 14, 200915 yr The more I look at the Miami, the more I question if this was its original path. Was it ever re-routed? The smooth, treeless banks remind me a lot of the re-routed parts of the Hocking. Was it modified for flood control? The Great Miami was greatly altered after the 1913 flood through the establishment of the Miami Conservancy District: http://miamiconservancy.org/about/construction.asp
October 14, 200915 yr I miss Dayton. Those pictures of the skyline through the trees, where were those taken from?
October 14, 200915 yr Do you think things are improving now or will in the not too distant future? I am just hearing so much bad. Well, the worst is over so things will improve (slowly). October 14, 200915 yr I miss Dayton. Those pictures of the skyline through the trees, where were those taken from? Woodland Cemetery. . .it's pretty amazing. Probably one of Dayton's most hidden gems. I really wish I had a better camera (I used a point and click) but then again, I wish I knew more about photography too. Dayton is slowly crawling out of the recession, much like many other cities around the country. I'm hopeful for its future! PS. . DAI was packed. . I had to park across at the Masonic temple. . there were people everywhere at DAI, inside and outside sketching and taking pictures. . .and downtown was relatively busy as well. A beautiful sight indeed. Also, the Caresource building up close is amazing. What a wonderful job they did! Very impressed
January 10, 201015 yr Great pics of the Gem City! I really like how the CareSource HQ turned out, gives the city a nice modern touch. It's good to see at least one person in Dayton has "pride" :-D
January 10, 201015 yr ^I'm not dead yet ;) So I guess that's three, assuming you, me, and Prfttimeofday. I know there's others......
