Posted October 15, 200915 yr Hello people, I am a fan of old cemeteries, and Woodland Cemetery in Cleveland is in my opinion an underrated gem. I volunteered to help any way I could to help in the restoration of the cemetery with the introduction of some Ohio native plant, plantings....and doing a quick narrative overview of the history of the cemetery to help attract other doers and enthusiasts. It is not perfect and likely not 100% accurate, but the point is to attract more involvement in the cemetery, and awareness, so that it can continue to improve. Below is the link to the MP3. If interested in helping....please write down the contact details at the end of the pod-cast. Thanks! http://www.noiseoff.org/media/woodland.cemetery.mp3
October 24, 200915 yr Is there anyone who would like to do some photography of this cemetery? I know a group who would appreciate that if it could be placed on this thread. Thanks!
January 2, 201015 yr Creepy photos taken in Woodland Cemetery..and video in Franklin Castle. Notice the orb in the Woodland photo that appears to have a screaming face. Real? No? Those who took the photos insist authenticity. You be the judge! Have a look! http://www.creepycleveland.net/
October 30, 201014 yr Great narrative. EC do you have any knowledge if they are progressing with the Gatehouse replacement?
November 6, 201014 yr Photos from Woodland Cemetery last Winter. Situated between Woodland and Quincy Avenues and surrounded by Cleveland's public housing lies this time capsule-esque place. Amazing is the number of Western Reserve settlers buried here. downtown in the distance Barely legible...the top line says 'Reuben Wood', the bottom line says 'Governor of Ohio' Located on Woodland Ave and adjacent to the grounds are the Holy Trinity church and parish house (also Holy Trinity school) The old gatehouse not currently present, photo from http://www.wcfcle.org/
November 7, 201014 yr Great photos! Thanks for posting...So many interesting stories about this cemetery....many dramatic ones.
November 11, 201014 yr EC I really wouldn't fret over this but thanks for the props! Most people do not like cemeteries or looking at pictures of them. Most people also do not prefer snow/Winter or looking at it...especially while we're enjoying Indian Summer. Also this near-southeast side neighborhood (E.55th/Woodland, Woodland-Quincy, Scovill...however one refers to it) is probably the least admired and least understood in Cleveland. Probably a couple other pertinent things I haven't mentioned, nonetheless, it all adds up. If only 1 person saw it and realized how important this is to Cleveland's history, it was well worth the effort. :-)
November 12, 201014 yr Btw, the Gatehouse restoration effort to get the funds is moving along. If anyone wants an update on that let me know and I will forward it. Also, if you read any of those John Stark Bellamy books about Cleveland crime and disaster stories, you will find many interred here and who have some pretty odd, creepy, dysfunctional, and downright dramatic stories. There are more plans to have more interpretive tours of the cemetery.
October 24, 201212 yr Just a small notice to anyone interested in the subject: I have changed the name of this thread to "Cleveland Cemeteries" to cover any and many... If their is such a thread, I could not find it and if the case, I would change it back to "Woodland Cemetery"
