Posted October 17, 200915 yr I am working on a possible preservation of a historic building in Cincinnati I could use some help from the architecture and construction people here. What would it cost to build a new 8000 square foot one story warehouse building? The only utility required is electricity. If you could cite a source it would be most helpful. Thank You.
October 17, 200915 yr Go to the Library and check out a R.S Means construction cost book. The prices are inflated about 15% right now because of the current economy, but it will get you a estimate. Then you can contact a contractor to get a hard estimate.
October 17, 200915 yr "The only utility required is electricity." Maybe by the user/tenant, but it's likely that the city would require plumbing (sprinklers), etc. clevelandskyscrapers.com Cleveland Skyscrapers on Instagram
October 19, 200915 yr There is no way to "ballpark' something like that. One would need to know what type of building , masonry , steel clear span? Site issues:level lot, site remediation issues(lead) setbacks, drainage, off street parking etc. If you are building new construction you have to follow local building codes, You will have to provide water and sewer on site and sprikler system, you may also hava ADA (Americans with disability acts requirements). You may also need a zoning change depending on how the site is surently zoned. If you are trying to compare the cost of building an 8000 square foot new construction vs restoration of a historic building, there is NO WAY to compare the two. Need allot more specifics to give any kind of an answer.
October 19, 200915 yr Look into prefab steel buildings. The supplies are pretty cheap, come on a flatbed or two, and can be put up in a week. You probably have to call them to get a price, and it's likely the cheapest option, especially if your comparing to renovation. The cost of sitework, and land value (especially if you're building in a city) could be as much as the building itself. http://www.empiresteelbuildings.com/building-systems/gable-symmetrical-buildings.html
October 19, 200915 yr I can help you with some estimates if you send me some specifics. PM me if you want. I also know a metal building erector who could give you exact prices if that is what you want. Toilets are definitely required. Minimal heat can be supplied with hanging gas heaters. Sprinklers probably are not required for this size.
