Posted October 24, 200915 yr Highland West is known for being that part of the Hilltop: east of Hague. The density of the business district here is comparable to Columbus' most well-known in the Short North. Problem is, virtually no one is taking advantage of that. You hear a lot about how the Short North and Downtown are too pricey for entrepreneurs. Well, here you go. If just a handful moved in here on one block this would be a happening place. MAP The good news is that the Highland West Neighborhood Association was recently formed. Today there was a cleanup planned with groups moving from the east and west ends up to the middle of W. Broad. I figured I would catch up with the west half of the group, but unfortunately it looks like everyone was over on the east side. Fortunately, I did run into a member of the organization while taking pics and she said they're trying to attract businesses and new homeowners. I walked the whole stretch and the worst thing that happened was a nice woman who was new to the neighborhood that approached me and was curious about why I was taking pictures. This needs to go and is what's holding Columbus back. (There's a black and white cat hanging out on the bottom right.) Lunch time! Best restaurant in the hood. ¡A devorar!
October 24, 200915 yr Honestly, one of the best "potential" neighborhoods in the city. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
October 26, 200915 yr Wow, I've never seen that part of Columbus before. Definately loving all the fall colors!
October 26, 200915 yr The neighborhood seriously declined in the '70s. I blame all of the trashy fast food places and big box stores that are now vacant, lining Broad St. in Westland. I hope they do something with the Hilltop business district; you only need so many pawn shops and barber shops per square mile.
October 27, 200915 yr Looks bad now, but it has the bones to be a great/vibrant neighborhood in the future.
October 28, 200915 yr Great Photo Thread!!!.... Fortunately for this neighborhood most of the physical structures are still in tact and in decent condition. I really hope this neighborhood becomes alive in the next 5-10 years...
January 10, 201015 yr WOW! I've ridden past this part of town several times on COTA, but never paid much attention to it, thanks for the tour.
